TBH, I can see no logic to having something as complicated as the original two box setup.

I took one look at that setup on my 3,000 mile 350, with its saggy filter and tatty, rotted rubber connecting pipes, took it all off and fitted a decent quality, washable cone filter for less than the price of replacing the two rubber hoses.

I’ve since replaced the Mikcarb and fitted a “Wassell” AMAL concentric. That came with a screw on bellmouth, which I wanted to keep but also wanted a filter. I found a foam filter with a wide enough mouth to fit over it, so now I have a relatively unrestricted inlet supplying filtered air.

Morning from Aus
In reference to the 'poor quality' rubber connecting tube.
I measured the carby and air filter tubes. Then with a set of callipers, went to my local auto parts store and found a stepped Radiator hose and cut down to suit. Perfect fit.

Over here a piece of 1 1/4th" fiber reinforced radiator hose about 1 3/8ths" long works well for the carb-to-head spigot, provides needed support and a 4-8 year life span. What worked for the carb-to-air-box end for you?
A trifecta of Pre-Unit Bullets: a Red Deluxe 500, a Green Standard 500, and a Black ES 350.

That what I was talking about, with the Rubber Radiator hose.
