Hey everyone, just wanted to do a quick intro... Picked up a 2015 Continental GT a few months ago. Love the bike, cant get enough riding in! Didn't intend on buying a RE, was actually on my way to pickup a thruxton when I found it. So far, great bike, no issues, couldn't be more happy!

Only question I have is where in the hell do I fine a two up saddle in black?? Do they even make them? Thanks!

I saw one offered by website in the UK. When I get back to my own computer bookmarks I'll see if I saved it and then post it here.

The link is to the UK distributer and they only show the dual seat with the red or yellow cowl. My experience with dealing with them is not good! They advertise an item as in stock when it's not.

Also he's based in Colorado and not the UK so an email to the US importer or supplying dealer might be the best option.

John, that's good info.
I'll talk a seat maker friend of mine. I'll ride up to see him and let him look at my Conti.
Cheers,

Just curious: What color WAS the stock seat color?

I just don't understand why someone would buy THIS particular bike and then want to have a 100+ pounds person hanging off the back of it?

I mean no offense here at all: It would just never enter my mind to have a passenger on this bike and I just don't understand.

I tried two up riding once! My wife hated it,I hated it and my GT hated it. Maybe around the city 10 miles or less under 40mph!
But the long seat with cowl looks more retro

my wife loves the bike too , but its only for very occasional use. A 8yr old boy means that we are pretty grounded and I wont be taking him out on it as he's very risk averse!

The dual seat looks better and is more comfortable. It should be the standard seat on the GT.

Having sat on the two up seat, I found it more comfortable than the stock seat.  It sits higher, and has more support.  If I bought a two up seat, I would leave the cowl on most of the time and not take a rider....

The only glaring design flaw (IMO) is the stock saddle. It just looks unfinished with it.

The pillion makes the bike more balanced looking and as has been mentioned, raises the saddle height a bit.

For me, that was a good thing. Eased the discomfort I was experiencing in my knees at 80-100 miles.

In a pinch it's nice to have the ability to carry a passenger or a small parcel should the need unexpectedly arise.

Right on the money! Honestly, I probably wouldn't even consider riding two up on this bike. However this saddle does balance the bike much better than the stocker. Not sure why they aren't being shipped with this to begin with. If anyone finds the 2 up saddle in black, please let me know. I am sure it's just a matter of time before EG has it. Thanks!

For the record, I am ordering up some hand laid carbon fiber bits, including the cowl for the pillion...

That'd take care of that color issue, eh?

Bought the black GT in early May. I have not had one ounce of trouble with this bike, over 1000 miles now. Do get the end mirrors from the dealer or Nfield gear. I think that they are almost a must have.

Do you see the same level vibrations on the end mirrors as I am getting on stock mirrors?

Also, any idea if RE is selling the dual seat for the black continentals (brown seat with a black cowl)?

You would think that the bar end mirrors would be worse for vibration, they are 4x better for anti vibration.

Not only that, but your elbows no longer play a factor in your rear view.

I cant seem to find it anywhere. I contacted RE and got the typical runaround. Im going to assume they arent shipping them yet. If you find one, please let me know!

Thanks for the heads up on the mirrors! How about cold starts? Only thing I am noticing is that the batt light comes on when I turn the key. The bike trys to turn over but usually needs a few cranks and some gas. After it turns over for 5 seconds or so, the batt light goes off. I am guessing this is normal? It even acts like a vintage bike, love it!

The bar end mirrors are very good, no vibration at all.

Yep that sounds just like mine, take a bit to start when cold.
My light does the same also.
Like you say very vintage.

The battery is discharging while running the starter, so Yes, the light comes on. The GT is a hard starter until completely broken in.  The older mine gets the easier it starts. Usually on first crank.  It doesn't hurt to have a PCV.

Thanks for the heads up!

How about idle vibration? I've noticed and read about a fair amount of vibration at higher speeds but my continental has developed a fair amount of vibration at idle and through first. So much so that it shakes my license plate. Anyone else notice this?

Lastly, my continental has also started a high pitch whistle / whine when showing down. Thought it was the breaks at first but I've noticed it even when not applying the breaks.

Thanks in advance for the help!

I found the ngk plug helps with starting. First or second crank when cold.

Once broken in my bike runs much much smother.

Assuming the CGT is like other Royal Enfields, your motorcycles vibration might be due to a cracked/broken/loose "head steady".

That is the bar that connects to the rear of the cylinder head and extends towards the rear, up to the frame where it is bolted on.

The other thing that can greatly increase engine vibration is a loose or broken engine mount bolt.
These connect the lower part of the engine to the frame and if one is broken or loose the engine will shake a lot.

On the standard RE's, several people (including me) have had one of these lower bolts fail.

I found an engine mounting bolt loose after 100 miles!  Part of the charm to check over Your bike regularly and keep some m8 lock nuts handy!

I just saw your post (newbie here) and love the mirrors.  Could you let me know which brand they are and where I might get them.  Also, how's the vibration?  Thank you in advance!

C'mon, folks. Let's put the brakes on breaks. It's not that hard.
