Description: The Triumph Trophy 500 is also one of my favorite motorcycles.

The TR5 Trophy was a production motorcycle made by Triumph Engineering.  Based on the Speed Twin, the TR5 was a trials machine designed for off-road use with good handling on public roads.  The name 'Trophy' came from the three 'specials' that Triumph built for the Italian International Six Day Trial in 1948, which went on to win three gold medals and the manufacturers team trophy.  Triumph backed Gary Nixon won the A.M.A. Grand National Championship in 1967 and 1968 on a Dirt Tracker based on the newly designated Triumph Daytona 498cc engine that was basically a Trophy twin fitted with a new cylinder head and twin Amal Monobloc carburettors.  The 498cc Triumph twin was also very successful in desert racing.
