On the steering stem, behind the RE insignia plate of my G5, looks like a crack or is it typical RE fit ? Do yo see this on your bikes ?

There seems to be a join where that bolt goes back from the insignia plate. Should be the same on both sides. I've just checked mine and it looks similar.

I would not be surprised if we both of us and our REs are cracking up :D - it is known to happen ! Do you remember when REs were recalled over the engine noise that was initially brushed aside as "oh, that is the auto-decompressor noise - don't worry about it" until the engine jam.

looks normal to me, there has to be a gap so the pinch bolt can clamp down tight on the fork leg to hold it solid.

There is a split in booth the lower part of the t stem where the pinch bolt holds the fork but your looks a bit slanted, anyways if there is only one split on each side of the stem then all is well with your G5.

I went down and took picture of other side of stem - this side the split is a bit smoother and not as much slanted. Can this be the cause of too much handlebar vibrations that I get on my G5 ?

Yup thats the way it should be on the RHS, probably the oil is smudging the split on LHS to make it appear a bit slanted. Clean that split with a cloth and you will see there is only one split there so no issues. Its probably their cast was not that good.

My 2009 Military G5 does not have those lines on either side. Check and see if there is paint over the crack.

I will be very surprised if your G5 don't have them.

Singh, totally normal. That's where the triple tree splits to let the fork leg in. The cracks on both sides may look a little different but nothing to be worried about.
If you'd like to make sure they're not a problem just put the bike on the center stand, loosen both sides, wiggle the front end a little, and retorque them to 24 ft. lbs. The fork can get twisted and it can affect handling. If you really want to go whole hog loosen the axle too and bounce the front end a few times while it's all loose. This lets everything center without and pressure.

i was looking in the wrong place. I agree with DS, they are the split for the compression clamp on the fork.

If it were not for support of knowledgeable guys like you, SSR, r80rt, GHG, WillW, CJ, ACE, Chumma, Clubman, and others, I don't think I will be riding this great legendary bike here in USA ;).
