Title: One area that the Enfield beats modern bikes.
Post by: potboiler on February 08, 2014, 11:16:39 am
I've just read the maintenance chart for a typical modern motorcycle (a Triumph Tiger 800). It lists the estimated time allocated to a  routine service. Replace air filter = 1.5 hrs. Adjust valves = 4 hrs. Change spark plugs = 2 hrs. I reckon we Enfield owners could probably accomplish those tasks in about 20 minutes and by the roadside, if necessary!

2 hrs for a spark change!?!  So you either attempt it yourself or pay a mechanic $50-80 bucks an hour to chnge it?    :o

New bikes are too reliable, I'd be bored stiff!

It's a good thing they are reliable. They are a pain in the butt to work on! There's a lot more work involved in getting to the problem than fixing it.

Since the thread topic says: One area that the Enfield beats modern bikes.
So I must share my this feeling and experience with Enfield:

Enfield is probably one of those rarest of bikes around, which can be enjoyed riding even at the speed 40km/h  :) .

That is SO true. I've owned several powerful bikes that you felt just had to be ridden fast. On my Enfield however, I have more fun riding along at 30-40mph down small country roads, listening to the different sounds from the exhaust, taking in the scenary and generally trying to making the journey last as long as I can - even if it's only 10 miles. If I go any faster, it's over way to soon!
