This bike keeps popping up claiming to be '56 but I am not seeing any reason to believe it, any of you guys who know the old bikes have any feel for it?

The tool boxes and the rear fender might be old.
I doubt if anything else is.
It looks like an Indian bitza that someone got corked on.

Indian bike, some kind of custom swing arm, modern shocks, India telephone pole muffler, Mikarb carb, etc.
A "replica".

Yes, there are old parts on this bike. I have the paper work. Motor is 55, Gear box/tranny and frame is 56. That makes a vintage motorcycle in my book. New parts purchased for an RE to include wheels, tires, custom gas tank, handlebars, muffler, chain guard, carb, rear shocks, rear fender. I've never said it was original untouched unmodified bike. Frame off build.
Thanks for asking...

That motor looks like a late model 500cc. It appears to have more fins on the cylinder than an early one. The swing arm looks to be square not round like original. The primary is late model kickstart. Looks very nice but far from original in my opinion. ERC

It looks like the old 3 screw breather type that the old engines had.
Must be a left over frame from 54, later titled as a 56. The early frames were discontinued in 1954, and the tooling sold to India.
Regardless, it's an attractive looking bike, anyway.

t120 the tool boxes are not 56. 56 had the clunky square ones. If rvcycleguy wants to email me the frame and motor #s I can give him the exact year of the bike. ERC

Thanks for the offer. Graham has already checked the numbers. Produced at Redditch as a 350 and supplied to Madras April 55. Assembled as a 56 and sold as a 1956 new in Nov. of 57 as a 500cc.

Thanks Rover. I don't care for them either but they came on the bike when I bought it so until I find something else that I like to replace them, there they will stay. Functional but not period enough...
