The looks great. In India people take unmodified REs everywhere, very much off road.
One thing I think is much more standard in India is crash bars. Pretty much every motorcycle seems to have them.

My favorite videos of off-road Royal Enfields are "One Crazy Ride" and "Riding Solo to the Top of the World".  Folks in India taking their stock Enfields into places that most westerners think need a specialized "Adventure" motorcycle. Here are links to the video trailers - helped me to activate subtitles when i purchased DVD's.

Yes solo to the top of the world is a very good movie it inspired us to go on our own trip to discover the highest motorable roads in the world. This was several month ago as the roads are only accesible for a short period each year. Here's short YouTube clip from our experience:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OknrsATU5VI

These are still the newer gen bikes, I have seen couple of riders covering more than 1000kms in one stretch without any proper breaks, during the journey that too on their stock 350 iron barrels. These bikes really get pushed to their limits!

Here's some really cool Leh-Ladakh video (Recorded by Anant Krishna Pandey, a dear friend)

Very nice collection both. Thanks for linking.
Ample proof the Bullet is well suited for whatever road there is, if any.  ;)

And the one video with the ambient sound, very pleasing. Sound of the engine as soundtrack pairs to the best music imo.  ;D

I'm not surprised. Big Singles were THE OFFROAD MOTORCYCLE back in the day. That one pictured is indeed beautiful. Unfortunately I'm beyond hurting myself in the dirt anymore. Great fun till someone gets poked in the eye.

Better than that - I went for the weekend to a rally with another rider on this particular bike. The feedback received was that initially all the Beemer and KTM guys did not want a RE on this trial. It turned out the RE had to wait for the others....great...speeds of over 115 km per hour on gravel roads. The adventure bikers sort of apologised after the ride.

A bit jealous of you folks who have traveled into Ladakh.  On trip from Singapore to Europe in 1971 on Yamaha DT1 250 one goal was to travel to Leh.  But at that time the farthest i could get was over the Rohtang La to Keylong, as travel past there was restricted to military at the time.  Have been enjoying the videos of others who have been able to travel farther - thanks!   Al
