I'm liking the idea of a tachometer as well. The tripper seemed like a great concept but I've never used it and have heard it has a few hiccups also. It really does seem a little unnatural not to be able to look at a tachometer when I want to while shifting, and although I just listen and instinctively shift anyway, it is nice to know it is there and look sometimes. I know it would get more use than the tripper on my bike.

I posted a link and graph in the “tripper out, tachometer in” thread to cycleworld’s test showing a redline of 6,800 rpm.  Search on tachometer and you’ll find it if interested.

Thanks for pointing me in that direction. I enjoyed the thread and the pictures. Guess I'll be adding this to my wish list. Did you ever get this resolved? "The tach has a quality feel and works great EXCEPT that when the horn is operated" Front LED ring?

Yes.  I ended up tapping into the headlight LED surround light.  Since I don’t like cutting into wiring, I bought male/female mating connectors to the LED light and made a breakout cable with them.

I found the connectors on Hitchcock’s site and ordered a few.  You can see that post and pics of the connectors here (or search for post on “lighting connector identification.”

Turned out to be a much cleaner installation.  Functions perfectly now.

Hi
Bracket that came with the tacho is shown attached to it the other one I  fabricated from a cardboard template.  Funny shape is to get around the tripper lead.
6500 ish is the max revs I think.
I think they do a 8000 rev tacho as well, the one I got was on offer.

Hi

Daytona Velona 60mm also has wiring to allow for a temperature sensor connection and for a remote switch to allow handlebar control on the functions.  I have bought the coiled wire adapter to allow the take off to be from the plug lead or there is an adapter that can be purchased with it to allow for coil connection.
I have also bought off Amazon a twin plug/socket to attach the 12 volts too, which is put in line with the LED circular headlight without damaging the existing wiring.
I wont be fitting a temperature sensor or handlebar control.  Just the tacho,

Do ya think it might actually work ?    Being so simple and the price is certainly low enough for "experimenting"  ??
 ???
I'm anxious to see how the  Daytona Velona 60mm turns out too.

We can fin lots of gauges on eBay and Amazon at a very low price

I prefer analogue and with 6000to 8000rpm, I would probably buy 6000rpm if I could put on my classic in the space where I have a cover(don't have tripper)

I've always subscribed to the adage of "you get what you pay for", so I wouldn't trust it to be reliable. Reading some reviews of it, it seems to suffer the same problem as a lot of LCD displays, in that they can be very hard to read in sunlight. I'd go analog too.

The Daytona Velona looks the part, easy to fit and worth the cost I think. The optional temp sensor is intended to be used for oil or water but I have it for air temperature, pretty accurate but won't read below zero which is fine as I wouldn't ride below zero!
