Needing to know a few critical torque values on the Meteor, I went to our Factory Service Manual today, only to discover that there is no master sheet listing the torque values for all critical fasteners, unlike my Honda Service Manual, forcing you to scroll through hundreds of pages to find each value you might need. WTF! I'd never buy a hard cover copy of this POS.

Anyway, if there is anyone with a lot of spare time on their hands, looking for a project, the hive here would greatly benefit from a master sheet being made and posted as a sticky here.

I'm gathering a few for my task currently at hand and will record them for future use. Maybe a sticky that is writeable, where members could go and add specs as they come across the need for them could be a way to get this done.

Just a thought to make the DIY'er life a tad easier and, by the way, I'm not up up this N-m thingy and wish the manual also showed Ft-lb specs, to suit my old Snap On torque wrench, so listing found specs in Ft-lb would also be helpful for us old time codgers.

Hi Dexter,.. that is a great idea ...torque settings are very important and it's hard to understand why they are not readily available... I have a new RE350 Reborn and I'm guessing a lot of the settings will be the same but anyway whatever ...it would be great to get a sheet up and running to help all of us RE
riders. I would love to be able to contribute but I cannot find a single torque setting for my bike... I realise they are still fairly new but I want to put some crash bars on ... have to remove an engine mount bolt for that ....and a rear shock absorber upgrade so would be nice if I could torque  them up to the right settings...

Here is the Meteor Service Manual. It has all the torque settings, but unlike a Honda Service Manual, there is no master sheet listing all values on one or two pages, so you have to search through the manual's various sections for the values you need. Not very convenient, but better than nothing.

That's why it would be good to have a master sheet, as has been done for the 650 models on that sub forum.

I know everyone expects instant gratification from their computing devices when accessing information, but sometimes a bit of patience works wonders. The manual is a large PDF file and the initial page that opens from the link takes a few minutes to load the PDF to your downloads folder, after you click on the Meteor Manual icon.

Then, it takes several minutes, once you click on the downloaded folder, for the manual to appear on your desktop, where you can save it as a PDF on your computer device.

I just tried it and it worked fine, with some patience.

Well, lets give it a go. Here is a link we can all share to enter torque specifications. When you enter the specifications in N-m it will automatically calculate the rest for you (for those needing it)  :)

Most excellent Frank! Hopefully Bilgey can give this top of board status, like the one on the 650 forum. Is it possible that this can automatically put entries into alphabetical order, or is that asking too much?

We don't have a thumbs up emoji, so a BIG two thumbs up to you!

Is it possible that this can automatically put entries into alphabetical order, or is that asking too much?

I only know of two ways to accomplish alphabetizing:

One can select the row (where it should go) by clicking on the far left (the number of the row) and then selecting "Insert", "Rows", and then selecting "1 row above" or "1 row below. Then, type in the data. Formulas will automatically be inserted for the rest when the N-m value is entered.

If one is not comfortable doing that, they can simply enter their data and it can periodically be updated with a sort command.

It is important to realize this is a "live document" and data can be entered simultaneously by other users. As such, don't be alarmed if you see things happening on the screen you are not controlling. Not likely, but it could happen. This should also be considered a group effort, so the next time you are working on something or if you already have some of the torque values handy, take a moment and enter them accordingly.

Remember, this is designed to be a work in progress and will likely be a long ongoing project so some patience will be warranted here. I hope this proves to be a worthwhile endeavor, especially for those of us who perform our own maintenance and repairs.

Hi Frank,

I plan to spend some time here and there working my way through the Meteor factory service manual and enter values as I find them and put them in alphabetically. However, I noted that there are a few already added, but their SM (service manual?) page numbers do not match with what I am seeing in the digital downloaded copy on my computer.

I am using the service manual downloaded from the Russian website I think. Give me an example and I will check if it is one of the items I listed or maybe someone else. Thanks for the heads-up!

The four entries that show SM pages in the 80's are not from that service manual. I have the same manual as you.

Also, when I have entered a line alphabetically, using your instruction for that, the torque value settings do not automatically compute through, but stay vacant. I was just there a few minutes ago and noted you were on there entering those - however you do that??

For now, if you just enter them starting with the first blank they will calculate properly. I can go in periodically and alphabetize them with a sort routine.

I posted the 80's pages. I've attached them for comparison. Maybe I don't have the same one as you...

I was not aware of two different downloads from the Russian site, because yours is very different, pages wise, from the one I downloaded and I posted a link to it earlier in this thread. Mine is active, in that I can select chapters or topics within a chapter and go straight to them. Does yours do that?  What's going on here??? :o

Where did you find your download?

OK, I just tried to do a second download from the site I linked earlier in this thread, but it now says "blocked plug-in".

Can you post a link to the URL you used. Still don't understand how the same manual would have changed so much. Unless it is an updated 2022 version??

The Copyright on mine is 2020

I just went to the link and downloaded again to see if it had been updated. It seems to be the same one I already have.

This is how my first page looks. Note 1127 pages at the top.

That link is the same as the one I already tried and neither will go to the manual download now. Very strange. How can there be two versions so different from the same link? My manual is 2020 also. However, I just won't put any page numbers in your torque list, to avoid confusion.

Example: Here's my page 5.

Well, there you go! The relative computer numpty that I am did not realize there was a sidebar contained in the manual, which I just now found how to open after looking at your pictures Frank!

Now that I have opened that sidebar, for the first time, all the page numbers have changed to reflect the same numbers (85-87), which you showed in a previous post. I certainly don't understand how THAT works!

Seems we ARE on the same page now!!  ;) :D

Bringing this thread to the top also, so that the now completed torque values chart set up by Frank in his post (number 7) can also be placed as a sticky at the top of the 350 forum.

Thanks again to Frank.

Hi all. Owner of a recently purchased Meteor 350 here.

I got the RE "Backrest Kit" yesterday (I had my dealer throw it in, on the purchase, but he was out of stock until this week). In the instructions, it states that the torque for the passenger grab-rail bolts is 25 N⋅m (c. 18.4 lb.ft., 221 lb.in.).

I'd add this info to the Master Sheet, but I seem to be viewing that in read-only mode. So I offer this info to anyone who is able and willing to do the update.

I have scanned the instructions (two-page, 2MB, PDF), if anyone needs to verify this.
Cheers,

Bill P.

Thank you. In truth, this has been one of the most confusing web topic I have ever seen. Between the two of you going on and on, I have ZERO idea of where is what I was looking for. One would think clicking the headline "TORQUE VALUES" in this forum would take me somewhere. Not so. Yes, I did get an eventual chart but its numbers are so off, it is unreliable. But thanks for the efforts.

OK. I'm thinking you are a troll now, so bugger off! Your thanks ring pretty damned hollow.

Anyone with the patience to read the thread as far as post #6, could easily find the link to the actual torque values sheet. Where do you get off saying those numbers are "so off"? They were compiled over the course of several days of going through the ENTIRE Royal Enfield Factory Service Manual for the 350 Meteor.

Do you know of a more accurate source than that, oh wise one!   ::) >:(

What an absolute joy of a document! Thanks SO much for making the effort,  team!

For those of us raised in the SI units world, having the Nm values was golden 😅

Can I ask a somewhat unrelated question? Can anyone recommend a decent, not professional, budget torque wrench? And should it be a 1/4 inch drive? I ask as I reckon most of the sockets etc I have are the 1/4 inch ones?

Thanks, heaps!

I can't recommend any brand of torque wrench other than Snap On, which is most of what I have in my tool box. Quality is important when relying on a torque wrench for accuracy, so buy the best you can afford.

As to size, you could get away with a 1/4 inch drive, if it has sufficiently high settings for the larger critical fasteners, or, you could also buy a 1/4 to 1/2 adapter to use a 1/2 drive wrench with your 1/4 inch sockets.

3/8" drive is a nice motorbike size & will cover all but the biggest fasteners, much more manageable to step down to 1/4 as well.

Ultimately it depends how high a torque you need to use, 1/2 stepped down to 1/4 is a recipe for snapped adapters & not really the done thing, you'll also have trouble getting large 1/4 sockets for the very reason of too much stress on 1/4 drive..

    Generally 1/2 to 3/8 is fine, & 3/8 to 1/4 also.
