Hell yeah!  I saw Lamb of God last year right after Randy got out of prison in the Chezk Republic(? I can't remember exactly where now).  They were having some technical difficulties (mosh pit induced ;D ) and Randy started telling some of his prison stories.  Twas a bad ass show!

It's a little early for RE Radio tonight.. "however" Coming at you from the FRoZeN Dome on the Range..

scoTTy is back and who knows what he has up is flanneled sleeve tonight........

the kerosene heater, The propane blasters ,  got the garage up a tad past the 12 degrees outside....  I actually couldn't see my breath after a couple of hours.. and I cranked up Pandora with alternative music which gave me a few ideas.. but without pad or paper or pen.. I quickly forgot.. guess you all got lucky..thought about some opera..   :-\  stay tuned

I know some of our Brothers and Sisters are going through a lot with this winter of winters..  warm beams to all of them.. and healing beams to those on the west coast... with their drought

You folks are doing a great job of making RE Radio your own.. Bro "mplayle"  put up a great Blue Oyster Cult, live that some individual took a lot of time to remaster... I saw them once.. In a tobacco barn of all places..bands played where they were paid.. we once played in a cave  1/4 mile underground..  the acoustics were wonderful to mix.. :o

So once again , I tread lightly through the slippery surface to the garage.. and leave you with  the Ramones...(I saw them open for Iggy PoP at the (http://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRvySZkeeumPNIgKJGRUolqC4K9t-s_PjiwCnBxD1hX6d5IB8paFQ)  so long ago

Anyone catch that awesome Bonnie video-review that Gas House Gorilla brought to our attention?  The review featured closing music that immediately grabbed my attention - a band called "Vulfpeck".  A bunch of odd white guys who have real skills and real soul!  Check out this song... kinda blues-y, soul-ly... sit back and soak it in!  I don't know who the singer is; I don't think he normally sings with them...

And to keep ScoTTy's punk thing going a bit.... For me, it was the Clash at Asbury Park, On the Board walk at convention Hall.  A Looooong time ago.  I was quite pissed off at my Brother, who the night before , managed to get into the bands private party... hate 'em ! ;D   But as a consolation I got to meet Mick Jones the following night.  Very... very cool guy as I remember. Who took some time out after the show, to hang out and bullshit with a bunch of  16-18  year old kids..

Back in '77 I was reading the entertainment section of the Seattle PI and came across a show that weekend that might be fun to check out. The group was The Ramones and it was at the Olympic Hotel in the classy Georgia Room. I had never heard of punk rock or The Ramones. The day of the concert I had been presented my Eagle Scout award at an afternoon ceremony. I get home after the ceremony get cleaned up, put on a polo shirt with my bell bottoms and Famolare platform shoes (my suburban punkass outfit), jump in my '67 Goat and head downtown. When I arrived at the Olympic Hotel my world was immediately turned upside down. Holy crap, my imagined vision of punk rock was quickly snuffed out. The line into the hotel looked like the casting call for a Dracula flick. For the first time in my life I felt like the freak. Even though I stood out from the rest I new this was something I had to see. It turned out to be a life changing event. The music was the loudest and fastest I had ever witnessed. It was so loud that my brain was sonically damaged which intern caused me to almost slam my GTO into a jersey barrier on the way home. To give you an idea of just how loud it was I worked security at Scorpions/Iron Maiden concert in the early 80' at the UW, standing in font of the stage behind the security fence where the back of my head was positioned about 2' from the speaker stack with the gigantic woofer at ear level through the whole concert. You would probably think this would be the loudest music a human being could possibly be exposed to. Wrong, wrong, wrong! OMFG, the Romones had their amps turned up as loud as Nigel's amp in Spinal Tap. If you want to interrogate gitmo prisoners play some Ramones with the amp at the 11 setting.

Here is a download page for a Ramones concert recorded the night before the Olympic Hotel concert at Rocker Tavern in Aberdeen WA (dreary lumberjack town and hometown of Kurt Cobain). You will need 7 zip or another program that can unzip RAR files. There is an interview where this chick that is friends with the band named Arlene talks about the show. She was Johnny's first girlfriend and later married Joey's brother Mickey. Good stuff, very rare recording.

Also saw them live at the Gorge in George WA back in the 90's and obviously without Roger Hodgson. They were three hours late, played for one hour with no encores then shut off the lights then flew off to their next ripoff gig. I wasn't completely disappointed though, they did play all the faves. Will try to see Roger the next time he's in town, by the looks of the video you posted he sounds better than ever. He was really the voice of the band anyway.

Since I posted up the "Fool's Overture", I obviously appreciate Supertramp (understatement).

I have the Breakfast-In-America and Crime-Of-The-Century cd's on my iPod in the car.  Many, many years ago (high school), I had Even-In-The-Quietest-Moments on 8-track until it wore out.

The ORIGINAL creation of guitar distortion!  I'm not sure if Link Wray started it, but there were many others who did this as well in that era.  Until the early 60's when Dick Dale personally worked with Fender to produce the very first 100 watt amplifier.  The Kinks also had a different version of distortion where they would piggy back 2 amps together.  They would plug their guitar into one amp, crank it, and then hook that amp into another amp, creating the first "overdrive".

Let's keep the Rockabilly going!  I give you The Reverend Horton Heat!!!

Gashousegorilla you need to set the mood when playing reggae music. This is a photo of Ragamuffin Tours Rasta Craft and the Lazy Lizard Bar at the split in Caye Caulker Belize. My wife and I spent two weeks there in October just across the street from the Lizard. Beer buckets/cocktails, seafood, reggae and sun. The most laid back vacation I've ever been on. White sand roads with bicycles and golf carts as the only forms of transport.

Let me take you to some place far away - it is Sufi music of the East. There are a lot of songs, poems and recitations. They keep regenerating and evolving with time but with a timeless message.

Here is the most modern version that involves a harmonious combination of musicians from many countries, Italy, Serbia, Morocco, Pakistan etc.  They create this jazzy version - very popular with DESI crowd (Indian word - DESI, means Indian sub continental people).

Turn ON closed caption CC on the bottom right side of bar of video to read translation and Turn UP the volume -

The Wiyos - in their earlier days, a couple of personnel changes ago, before their "old-time" style evolved into drum kits and vocal beat-boxing - not that there's anything wrong with that...

scoTTy - I have a similar problem.  Most times when I listen to music, with or without headphones, I feel it is necessary to listen loud enough that it drowns out all other surrounding noise.  Hence, why I go through a good pair of headphones every 2 years and almost always have 1000 watts or more in the trunk of my car.  ;D  Right now in my '95 Legacy Wagon I have Alpine speakers in my doors and 1200 watts (with the gain at about half way so I can still hear myself think lol) in the back with single 10" Sony.  I used to have 2 - 10" Sony subs but I sold 1 because it was just too much.  ;)  Now between my selective hearing and damaged hearing, I have the ability to tune out anything and when someone gets mad because I didn't hear them I just honestly say "Sorry, I'm deaf.  What did you say?"  Except my wife, I just tell her "Hunny.  Deaf."  OH!  I also used to own a Laney 120watt 4-12 Half Stack and an Ibanez RG Custom that used to REALLY piss off the neighbors.  I sold those quite a few years ago.

Here's two of Todd Rundgren's heaviest hitters
Definitely made to be cranked to 11 in a cannabis induced stupor a la 1974 !
Pack a bowl if ya got any!

Number One Lowest Common Denominator

The Last Ride

 8) Both of these get cranked up really hot as they progress to the end. Don't give up on them early. They rock!
Rundgren's a genius!

This is so cool, hard to believe a young man prefers vinyl LPs of yesteryears in the link below - Alan Parsons Project Album that he plays.

There is something nice about these LPs that is missed on digital media. They have roundness and natural-ness (just created this word  :) in their sound. Not that I don't like MP3s but analog recording has a different quality. Something like 'color' pictures vs 'black/white pictures. Both are enjoyable in their own ways.

Unfortunately recording their sound back into youtube goes back to digitization, except that the sound of needle on vinyl can be heard in quieter moments !

The best vocal version of The Great Gig in the Sky from the 1988 Delicate Sound of Thunder Tour. The video of this concert seems to be blocked so this vid was the best I found. Watch the whole concert or expand (read more) the play list and click on the song. Not the best video quality but the audio seems fine.

Hey while we're on both subjects.........

Mattz - Do you have any recordings of your music?  Being a musician myself, I love hearing anything "local" and underground regardless of genre.   :)

Scottie J

Scottie - since you asked...

My "professional" music career was short-lived - I met my wife, who was making a living as a folk musician, and began playing music with her.  We've recorded some stuff together.  Her site is

http://www.midcoast.com/~beechhil/ADodson/ (http://www.midcoast.com/~beechhil/ADodson/)

and a list of her recordings is here:

http://www.midcoast.com/~beechhil/ADodson/recordings.htm (http://www.midcoast.com/~beechhil/ADodson/recordings.htm)

Near the top of this page, there is a song sample of us singing an old traditional song with one of my hurdy-gurdies.

My hurdy-gurdy interest has always been primarily the French traditional style; I don't have any "proper" recordings, but you can hear some basic home sample recordings of some of my tunes here:

http://www.midcoast.com/~beechhil/vielle/ (http://www.midcoast.com/~beechhil/vielle/)

Look for the sound samples button on the left.  Yes, I know, it hasn't been updated in years.  This is folk music, guys, so don't go looking for any hurdy-gurdy head-banging!

Parkinson's disease has all but ended her performing career, but she still teaches beginning guitar and dulcimer, and she can, in my opinion, still give most singers a run for their money!  The ferry helps pay the medical bills, and my B5 helps me keep my sanity!  ;)

ScoTTy - thank you.  I mean it.

Singhg5 - ohhh, boy, those old videos - these things never go away, do they?  Long hair, and no gray!  The hurdy-gurdy one has been a long-running disappointment to me, as the camera recording the trio stopped working just before it got good!  A fun, fast musette-style waltz... think Django Reinhardt meets Hot Club du France - well, never mind, it was great fun, but nobody gets to hear it (And no, I'm not comparing any of us to Django!  Trust me!).

The other one is me and my wife, and a few other local friends - not "my group" by any definition, but folk music is generally inclusive rather than exclusive...

Scottie, and all - here's a link to an artsy-fartsy arrangement of a French 3-beat bourree (a type of dance).  It's two different hurdy-gurdies I made; I played one part and overdubbed the second.  I think it might give you a pretty good idea of why noisy bands might like the hurdy-gurdy - put on your headphones and turn it up!

Not just any Uke - a Banjo-uke!  I've got me Grandad's mandolin-banjo - I don't play it, though - it's LOUD (as it was meant to be), and it has a pretty bad sound.  Also, I think it was a pretty cheap instrument 90 years ago, and it hasn't aged too well...

a banjo-uke or banjolele? :) banjolin?

I love those things. Loud and annoying. Love them!  60-70 years ago they were very common place.

OK  Now everyone should at least have heard the name GWAR.  Those of you who actually know of them and what they're about (which is being absolutely ridiculous in every way possible) you are going to love this.  I've been a GWAR fan since I was a kid and finding this video was a real treat for me.  For those of you who don't know about GWAR imagine Andrew Dice Clay And Jim Carrey teaming up together to write old school heavy metal.  Enjoy!

How can you take GWAR seriously. Lead singer is lame. Rest of the musicians are OK. Why do this song? They would be better off doing, "Mary had a little lamb". Cheesy rubber garb. When you consider how these guys evolved, Alice Copper, Kiss, so on, it just seem lame and tame. Kinda like the Insane Clown Posse...........just a bunch of talentless CLOWN pussies! Maybe we can get Ozzie's wife to kick them to the curb. I saw her rip the ICP some new AHOLEs. DEVO has it straight, "The devolution of man", that is what GWAR is. Putin, NUKE me now!

Blltrdr - c'mon, now don't sugar coat it... tell us what you really think!

I thought it was hilarious!  Jimmy Fallon couldn't have done it better.  The look on the lead singer's face when he tried to start singing (ok, "singing") but the band kept playing over him was great, even through all that rubber!  What emotion!  What drama!

Of course, I can't wait to see what Jimmy Fallon will do next, but I never want to see or hear GWAR again, so I guess that's telling, too.  Sorry, Scottie...  ;)

LOL  Yeah, you guys are taking GWAR too seriously.  HAHAHA   ;D  Odorous Urungus (the singer) is known for for not taking lyrics seriously and singing gibberish.  Like he writes actual lyrics, but sings in gibberish.  IDK  I think it's hilarious.  And besides, for a bunch of college students that got together for the sheer purpose of shocking and upsetting people, but still continue to write and play music successfully 25 years later is an amazing feat.  Whether you love or hate them, despite all the controversy throughout the years, they have succeeded quite well.
