Title: Rev Limiter
Post by: dickim on August 10, 2018, 12:09:16 pm
Does anyone know if our engines (2014 C5) have a built in rev limiter (electronic) ?

I was watching a video clip today and I think they said -the c5 hit the limiter at 5250 rpm. that would also go for the b5 and g5

 :)
On my B5 when running 17/38 gearing and an Avon AM26 rear tyre it would hit the limiter in 5th gear at GPS verified 83mph - its listed top speed.
Which happens to be somewhere around 5,250RPM.

It's not so hard to find it in second gear  ::)

I had a 1990 Cali III. IIRC at the time there were two versions- mine had carbs but you could get one with FI. I doubt that the carb version with crappy Motoplat electronic ignition had a rev limiter, but I don’t know the definitive answer.

Thanks - that does help, mine is carby with electronic ignition too, but digiplex I think. I do have a $20 bat operated one that you wrap a lead around spark plug, so that will help until I get a "Feel". Have a multi-unit of ebay bt just can't seem to get it to trigger from the Guzzi feed but the Guzzi one is Slooooooow ??? o respond.

I also use one of the battery powered Tacho's that are driven by the impulse in the HT lead. It works well, though obviously doesn't respond as quickly as more sophisticated units. It has a very useful feature - when you turn the ignition off after a run it displays the maximum rpm reached since the engine was last started.

It also betrays its auto marine roots - keeping a count of the number of hours the engine has been running - which I believe is how service intervals are calculated on marine engines.

Thx & similar to the one I have after a forum recommendation from Wildbill ! Trouble is pushing 60 didgits are a bit small on a dashboard (building a 30'3 Morgan style trike with Guzzi engine - just made a great job of discolouring the single wall pipes that came with the kit at least it looks 30's now  ;D reverse cones sound great but may think differently when I drive it with them next to my ears, and painting it to match my Cream / Burgundy & Tan C5. garage should end up with Lotus Esprit, JZR Trike & R.E - so 4,3,2 wheelers ;D Toys :D
