That is a LOVELY exhaust, BlackFingernail, I stand in awe! What is it's provenance? Did someone leave a Velocette parked too near your abode one night?  :o Seriously - where did you source this jewel?
Thank you kind sir, glad you like it. I can't remember where I got it from, I have had it for a very long time, it was one of those things that you must buy because it is nice and will come in handy, it was rough, but I had it re-chromed last year.
It sounds even better than it looks, nice and deep, but not too loud. If you can find one, grab it, I highly recommend fitting one.
There is a source of alternative yummy fish tails behind the bike.
It's metal, it doesn't understand!

Azcal
I read that you added a 4.00 tyre to the rear and a 3.5 to the front.
I like the fatter tyre look
Do they fit and run ok with no mods to swinging arm and mudguards (fenders)?
Used to have:
Fs1E; Yamaha V90 step through; MZ125; Harley badged Cagiva 125; Cm250T; DT250; 750 four F2; XS 650; GS400; W650; '07 iron barrel military 500; Royal Alloy TV175

Now have: '22 classic reborn

Perfectly. I have a K70 3.50 x 19 on the front and a Duro HF308 4.00 x 19 on the rear. Centerstand still works, tire is load rated for 780 pounds, so I needent give up crullers... ;)

Mine had a new (Heidenau I think) 4.00x19 on the rear when I got it, touched on both sides of the swing arm with the tyre cold.
Removed it and fitted a 3.50x19.
Obviously there is some variations with brands and styles so be careful.

I’m considering Heidenau’s. They seem to run a tiny bit big. I have at least 5 sets of Heidenau’s in small sizes for a 125 flat track bike. They work great and have a nice feel.
I’m going with the K34 in  3.25x19 front and 3.50x19 rear. I would love to go bigger but I don’t dare from comparing pictures on the web. Also there is mention of German’s having a lot of experience on their forums with Heidenau. I’d love to hear from anyone that knows anything about them.

AzCal, did you mention what carb you have and what jetting changes you made?

I have a tall, wide Pirelli MT43 4.00x18 tire on the back of mine (I believe the circumfrence is the same as a roadgoing 4.00x19 tire), and I have to keep the snail cams adjusted out a ways to keep the tire from rubbing my swingarm. When adjusted well, though, I get some fore-aft chain adjustment and a solid 6mm clearance for mud and terrestrial frogs to pass.

If you're handy you can clearance the swingarm to fit more meat, with some flat plate, a grinder, hammer and a welder.

@ #20: Stock 28mm MikCarb, I used Hitchcocks up-jetting chart & ordered the brass bits to match the chart configuration. Works a treat. The bigger Pilot & lower slide cutaway make starting pretty painless. It's just too easy to use what Hitchcocks has provided.

I really like the larger tires, more sure footed IMHO. The 4.00 x 19 Duro has a 780 pound load rating, The machine itself weighs over 400 pounds, the stock 3.50 x 19 is good for about 500 pounds. A rider and some luggage puts you at 300+ for a 700 pound total. 60% of 700 is 420, so the OEM rubber doesn't really have much reserve capacity. The center stand still works with the bigger rubber, and the larger OD front takes care of some of the speedo optimism. I think the Pre-Unit Bullet OEM tyre sizes are just to roll them off of the showroom floor.

I have about the same setup. The 50’s pipe and muffler from H’s. I used the chart and jetted my MikCarb to 30 pilot and 125 main. The slide is stock. It was washing the cylinder and smoking on the 30 pilot so I put in the 27.5. It stopped smoking but still seems rich.
