411 & 450 Himalayan & Scram / Re: Tec camshaft noise
« Last Post by SNK on Today at 10:25:15 am »
I removed the TEC cam and installed the KENT, adjusted the valves at IN 0.08mm EXH 0,23mm (on the tight side)
the valvetrain noise when bike is hot is TERRIBLE!

I changed the oil grade from 15W50 to 10W60 (Motul 7100) valvetrain noise remained unchanged.

Manualy adjusted the Cam chain tentioned from 5 notches out to 8 notches oit no change at all.

Today i adjusted the ehaust valve at 0,15mm went for a ride of 20 kilometers and wen i returned i checked the exhaust valve wile engine was still hot (engine oil 68 Celcius, head about 108 Celcius).

The exhaust valve was at 0,20mm!!!

I had NO valvetrain noise when bike was cold and a lot lower when bike was hot but i REALLY CANNOT UNDERSTAND how is this
possible and Exhaust valve clearance increases when bike is hot.

With my above experiment i can understand why the tip of the valve in many Himalayans making a dent by the rocker arm adjustment!

I am wondering if i adjust the Exhaust valve at 0,10mm cold then when it will be hot and go to about 0,15mm it will make no noise...

Your thought will be highly appreciated.

Hello Sanpan, I had exactly the same problem twice in 15 days when my bike was 6000km. I went full throttle to try "strive" the injector nozzle (I don't know if there is a main jet in an EFI lol). Also it can be a beading spark plug.
It never happened again, the bike is now 11000km.

Hey xpop,

Thanks for that. I shall try your suggestion and see how I go.

Unsure if the spark plug will be the issue as it would have been checked during the very recent service at the dealer?

I shall hook up the scanner as well to see if an error was picked up.

Will report back. Thanks again for the advice 😊

I guess that they are manufactured locally, the style of their silencers is really unique .
Anyway, thanks for the help. :)

I know this is not the same bike, but check this video about custom GT from Bike Shed https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qi2OsqR2NvU
Very impressive what they did to a stock bike

I never could wear the standard foamy type of ear plugs very long either, before they hurt my ears and they didn't do that good a job anyway.

You need to find a local hearing protection firm that can make silicone molds of your ear canal, if you want the best in hearing protection. They certainly aren't as cheap as foamy plugs, but they are the bee's knees for comfort and effectiveness. I can wear them for several hours. Also use them when cutting the lawn, or using power equipment nearby.

They still allow sufficient hearing to hear sirens, horns and in helmet communication systems too.

What a beautiful piece of advice! There is an audiologist close by and I shall pay them a visit this week.

Appreciate the advice 😊

I will look forward to the results, I have the lite version and I can’t say it delivered more power but it definitely made the bike run smoother and cooler. I also used to get a slight misfire and that’s gone since fitting the FuelX.  25% more torque is a bold claim which if true is more attractive to me than going down the performance cam route.

Ooooooh very nice! By the way, would appreciate when you get some time:
- a couple of pics of that seat to check proportions in relation to the bike
- what do you thing of it....good, meh...crap?

Kind of a mixed bag for me with 1,92 m. Seat is the widest of all RE seats for the Interceptor but it’s flatter (about an 2 cm) than the other comfort seat I have.

Odd question, I know. But I dislike earplugs a lot. I have the Pinlock ones and both sizes hurt my ears.

I am confident others would be similar.

Is there any other ear protection method available other than sticking an earplug in?

My helmet is a Shoei Neotec 3 which is supposed to be one of the quiet ones.

Thanks :)

Are you planning to use it off road or are you after a scrambler look?

I like taking it on gravel and dirt roads but most importantly I’m after the scrambler look.
