According to this article, the 650 Himilayan has been confirmed. Looking forward to this one.

I don't know that it will be lighter and, contrary to what a couple of those articles indicated, I doubt that they would use the same suspension and brakes as the current 411cc Himi. They will likely take the opportunity to improve the bikes suspension and braking to go along with the greater speed capability. So, probably a bit shorter than the V Strom, and probably a bit lower, but the weight we shall see. I have grown to really like my Strom, but it took some tinkering/mods to get it to the point where it is excellent. Still more of a road bike and less dirt capable, than the 411 or the coming twin, most likely. If they had the 650 Himi variant out last year I would not have bought the Strom. I like those torquey RE engines!

I used to own a V Strom and happened to ride a new one recently. I still regard it as a superb bike and a 650 Himalayan (even with that lovely engine) wouldn't tempt me in the slightest. Similarly, I wouldn't buy the small V Strom, much preferring the Himmy.

I’ll believe it when I put eyes on it. We are more likely to see a new 650 cruiser before a 650 Himalayan, as we have seen spy phone of one out and about.

RE claims to be releasing a new model every quarter, which is a pretty tall order, but if they even nearly stick to it, we should be seeing plenty of new models soon.

The V strom 1,000 and 650 are almost identical bikes, except the difference between 100HP and 70HP. Many people, me included, prefer the 650, but I am a solo rider. If I were shorter (I am 6'1") and rode mostly dirt I would have a Himi as well. But the Strom 650 is a much better bike than the Himi for me, much as I do like the Himi. If it had 30 or 35 hp, I probably would have gone for it, though it is still a bit cramped for me. My knees hit the creases in the tank, which is uncomfortable. Hopefully they stretch the 650 a bit.

We've had breathless articles about this for some time.

I, for one, hope they don't shoehorn that twin into the Himalayan. It'll make a heavy bike and will put the bike in direct competition with the Japanese, a fight it can't win. They'd be better off developing a higher capacity single maintaining the long stroke which is what gives the 410 it's character and ability to keep pulling.

Delightful narration, great photography!

Nice Malle DIY 650 Himalayan effort:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6hKkwHFf6Ys

The Malle effort is probably about as much offroad as a 650 twin should go. Skid plate, tires & spring rates take care of casual dirt road excursions, and that lovely bag$ $uite will gladden the heart & lighten the pocket of Adventure Tourers. The low pipes clear the bags, and if you are rock-hopping your new 650 Himalayan, you probably are a robust example of a 6'6" 300 lb. footballer with a comfortable bank account sufficient to take care of collateral damage. Better the pipes than the cases...  - ACR -

I have been reading countless articles regarding the new RE classic 250 and Himalayan 650 for months now, but none of these bikes has been launched yet. Every time there is a rumour or spy shots in the news of the new classic 250cc or 650cc Himalayan, it turns out to be the same model relaunched with minor upgrades.

As has been said many times, the Himalayan 650 is just media speculation and would be a travesty if it ever did get built.

From a marketing perspective I'm not sure a 650 Himalayan would make much sense. While the Interceptor is a terrific bike, it is, at least in the US, very niche oriented, and has very little competition. It beats the Triumph Bonneville on price, and in many examples performance, and I think it puts the W800 Kawasaki on the trailer in every respect.

A 650 twin ADV bike would have to compete with several very good bikes that are well established in that class, and while they are somewhat more expensive, I'm not sure the guys that buy those bikes would be concerned over saving a grand or two.

On the other hand a I think a "scrambler" variant of the Interceptor, think of the first gen 2008 Triumph Scramblers or even a 1970 Honda CL might sell quite well, as would a larger displacement  Himalayan.

In any event it'll be interesting to see what they come up with. Perhaps a 350 Meteor with a high pipe, braced bars and skid plate? ;) ;) ;)

They've just bought a scrambler 500, so a scrambler would be a logical step, and probably not that expensive to try.

As far as the Himmy, bore and stroke it to 500 and nearly all complaints would disappear.
