Title: Oil level
Post by: hocko on October 15, 2009, 07:00:51 am
Hi all, just a quick one,re the oil level in the glass. Is the oil required to be within the limits cold or after being warmed up. I'm just getting the oil level back to normal after overfilling it at the first service. At  present the oil level is sitting level with the top mark when cold. I'm assuming this is is indicating the the level is still too high and that it should be within the marks when the oil is warm, just want to confirm it.

Thanks all

My experience with sight glasses as used in all  applications  thus far from refrigeration to aircraft to motorcycles,  has been that the top of the glass is the upper limit and the bottom of the glass is the lower limit.  I  assume its the same concept for the UCE engine

Thanks for the reply, I may not have made it clear what I was chasing . I realise that the oil level is to fall between the two marks, what I was not sure of is whether this reading should be with the oil hot or cold. Hope this helps.

Cheers  :)

Hi hocko,
IF it were my bike I would prefer to see a crescent of window at the top of the oil level about ten minutes after shut down. Say 1/8 of the glass not covered by the oil oil.

Kind o quiet in the U.C.E. section. Gives me the impression you fellows have few if any troubles. ;)

It says in the manual to warm up the bike for a couple minutes, turn off and wait a few minutes for oil to settle then check level.  On center stand of course.
