Title: gear box question
Post by: bwalls on February 27, 2008, 09:05:47 pm
i posted this in the bullet classic section and no one responded. i figured i would try here. i was changing my 2002 bullet over to right hand shift and i accidentally pulled the bottom shaft (lay shaft?)out while i had the cover off.  my question is, can i just push this back into place or do i have to take both shafts out and align them and put them back in? i have no experience with trans work and don't want to screw it up. thanks

There is more to it than just shoving it in. There is a splined bushing that may have fallen off. the gears on both shafts, and the shift forks must be engaged as it goes together. If you don't have a service and parts manual you should get them now. On the bright side- unless you assemble it with a hammer you probably wont hurt any thing but your pride if it doesn't work. You can take it to the dealer then. It is really not that hard but you should invest in the books.

i reassembled it and i currently only have first and second gear. i have a manual so i guess i'm going to take it apart and try again. if anything of interest happens i'll post it. thanks for your response.
