Attached is a instrumented road test published by Motorcycle Consumer News in their April 2010 issue. Just something to remind you of the good old days.   ;)

I stopped reading when they mentioned the four valve cylinder head.
Off route, recalculate?

 I hadn't noticed that.  A bit of a technical slip-up.   ::)

He doesn't say they are in the head.  The specs say "2 valves per cylinder".

I think he was trying to count the number of vacuum tubes in the EFI system controller.  They call those "valves" in India, don't they?   ;D

This intimates to me that has a four valve head.

Perhaps the reviewer was thinking of the new Himalayan engine and he was just a few years before his time.   ;)

Keep in mind that the magazine knew little about Royal Enfields and they received their technical information from Classic Motorworks and the retail dealer that provided their test bike. So either they received incorrect information from the shop salesman, they didn't take accurate notes, or it was just a mental slip-up when the article was written.  I bet the accurate specifications included on their last page was provided by our former host and Royal Enfield importer.

MCN has made more than one editorial mistake during their 28 years in operation. However, you won't have them to kick around anymore.  Their parent company and publisher has entered bankruptcy court and the February 2020 issue is their last one.   :(

Thanks for taking the time to scan and post that article, Richard230. It's always appreciated. As for the "four valve" thing, it's clearly just a slip-up on the writer's part. In the end, the tech sheet tells the true tale.
So badass my Enfield's actually illegal  in India. Yet it squeaks by here in Virginia.

Found it, Motorcycle Consumer News and not Motor Cycle News as in the UK.
Off route, recalculate?

That was actually a pretty decent review, with mostly good info and fair comments. Two things that are different on my 2016, or at least things I disagree with: I like the tires a lot. They don't look vintage but they grip well at all angles. And as far as vibration thru the pegs.........not an issue for me. GHG says I got a good one though. And I love it regardless. Thanks for posting, that was cool!

Bike may not have been fully run in too? Mine hasn't been that vibey from the day one, though I've seen utube vids suggesting around 1600miles they free up. I'm nearly there!

My guess is that the test bike was hot off the press.

It would be interesting to have Kevin Mahoney comment on that test since he was the US importer at the time and likely supplied the test bike via his LA dealer.

   Head shake they say  ?!   Hahaha !!       Oh... just a wee bit.  :o    Those early C-5's with the 18" front wheels .....   Horrible at speed.  The G-5's were a much better choice back then.
