Title: Accessories for C5
Post by: TCP on October 20, 2011, 05:34:23 pm
When are we going to see some awesome accessories for C5's ???

I purchased a set of small throwover saddlebags for my C5  (universal).  Need to adjust the final height of the bags, but that's not a problem.  Leather punch, some nylon lacing and I'm done.

I noted that there are saddlebag racks and a lot of other things available for the G5 and Electra models, but not much for the C5.

Does anyone have an opinion as to whether or not additional brackets are required for the saddlebags, or can I just securely tie them off to the frame and go with it.

If required, I guess the next thing would be to fabricate a set of standoff type bottom supports and pay a visit to my powdercoat guy.

I would also like to change out the tail light and license plate bracket to something a little more aesthetically pleasing.

Anyone done this and have any good sources for a direct replacement with a bit more style???

Depending on where they fall on the frame you can just throw them over and call it good.  I would recommend some 3M clear protective for where they touch to avoid rubbing through the frame.

Lots of the stuff in the NField Gear catalog will fit as is or with a little modification.  If the C5 isn't listed call and ask, some of the descriptions just haven't been updated.

The beehive tail light can be fitted to the C5 and looks very appropriate.  You can also keep the stock birdhouse/plate holder but change the tail light.  30's ford tail lights look great and are inexpensive and readily available on the net.

Also, I think the 7" halogen headlight is one of the best upgrades for the money for any RE.  It looks beautiful, makes you more visible to other motorists, and give you far better visibility at night than the stock light.

I have the classic British taillight on mine. It looks like it belongs there.

Yes,  looks completly original.  Same taillight that is on my 69 Bonnie.

It would fit the shape of the mounting plate as well.

Another good suggestion.

Thanks,

Lots of none motorcycle bags, IE courier bags, can be modified to attach to the re-bar that goes around the fender. I found some fannie packs at our local army navy store that I plan on putting on my C5 Military this coming spring. Google courier bags and see what shows up. You'll be surprised at what you'll find out there.
