I've been running a 7" sealed beam headlight since not long after getting my Bullet, but today my low-beam burned out (I've still got high beam for now). I was going to just pick another sealed beam unit to replace it, but then remembered that my CMW grab bag had included a 7" NON-sealed beam lens. I've already got a 7" frame for the lens, but I'm not sure I know what I need for the bulb. The CMW catalog 7" conversion kits for the halogen bulb all seem to list a "pilot bulb" as being included.
Can I just plug in a halogen bulb, or do I in fact need a pilot bulb? If one is required, how does one hook it up?

I have the non-sealed beam halogen conversion installed. It does come with a 'pilot' light, it's a small bulb located below the main bulb. I was not sure how to hook it up or what purpose it would serve (and the instructions don't say), so I ignored it.

My pilot light is burned out, yet the headlight still works. I read somewhere that the pilot light is a left over from British days. One function I can think of is that it would let you know that power to the headlight was intact if the headlight burned out. You wouldn't have to go looking for a short or something.

Does the halogen bulb for this lens just attach with a push and twist into the metal connector on the back of the lens? Also, are you able to hook up the wiring to the bulb's terminals using just the existing spade connectors. I took a closer look at the lens and see ti does have a hole for the pilot light, but it doesn't seem to have any sort of built in connector. If the pilot light isn't necessary, I may just plug the hole.

Yes, you can use the existing spade terminals.
