Title: A current project
Post by: GeorgeE on January 12, 2010, 08:21:02 pm
I'm passing these balmy winter hours in the shop playing with my 64 500 twin. It was pretty ratty when I got it with the rear fender chopped straight off. I did some cutoff wheel work and got a new shape. Saved the bead to wrap around the back. Shocks(BSA?) were moved forward to a hole that some past owner drilled. Yes they still work and dropped it down nicely. Seat from a graymarket 350 Bullet that I picked up recently.

Took it apart except the motor painted the frame and redid the forks.  Came with a Trailblazer top tree so polished that up along with the lower legs.Swingarm was tweaked so straightened that. Bushings were good. This is where it's at now. Having a fork brace/fender mount made up. Going to try a Lexan fender so it looks fenderless but still has some protection.Stock toolbox was missing so I'm keeping my eyes open for something interetsing for a replacement. All subject to change at any time .

The polishing came out nice on the forks and the crown.  ERC

One of the best investments I ever made was my little polisher. Now even if they run like crap at least they look good doing it.

I can't wait either. Tank and fender are almost ready for paint.
Here's a shot of a visor I added to the speedo opening. The original speedos for these are not too common so I decided to go for something different. Visor is from the truckers chrome shop( plastic) white part is from a PVC drain pipe epoxied in.to a groove in the bottom of the visor. Bolts hold it in tension against the housing.

Here's a shot of the front end with the fork brace installed. Have a good friend who is a terrific machinist with his shop at home. He loves to make one offs. Lucky for me. I owe him big time for the stuff he's done. His usual charge is me buying him breakfast.
Here's a shot of the completed front end. Had an old beat up alloy fender so I chopped off a piece and polished it up. Like the look of it so I went with minimalist and abandonded the clear fender idea.

All for now.
