I had a new front tire fitted today and I used the situation that the front wheel was removed to change the fork oil.
Jesus, that was a smelly broth. Fork oil is usually odorless, but what RE filled in looked and smelled like radiator antifreeze.

When I changed the fork oil in my B5 I was pleasantly surprised that it didn't smell like fish oil and instead seemed to be real motor oil.   

I certainly didn't expect that.

Made some little feet for the centre stand. No-one else seems to have this problem: when my bike's on the centre stand and I push to roll it off,  the round feet usually slide along the ground instead of the stand folding up. It's really difficult on the shiny concrete floor of my shed.  The feet make it roll off nicely.

I fitted a new right hand  twist grip as I damaged the original putting some grip puppies on. Then took the GT out for a shake down ride after fitting a powertronic ecu.  60km round trip and what a change! The GT was much more responsive and had lots of get up and go. I have already got a Carberry plate on and the addition of the grip puppies meant that this is the very first time I have taken the bike out and not been troubled with numb fingers. Only the very faintest vibes present, as expected but nothing compared to when I last ran the bike. I reckon I could ride my GT for hours and not be bothered.

Just changed out the OEM suspension for Ikon fork springs and shocks - huge improvement for AUD$770. Not a lot of other things added to it; Power Commander, Airfilter goodies from Hitchcocks, reverse cone muffler, LED lighting to lessen the load on the alternator, fork pre-load adjusters, narrower clip-ons, shin shredder foot pegs from Hitchcocks, Bridgestone BT45's -140/70 rear to give it a little more rounded profile and lowered the front by 5mm because I know how to work steering geometry. The Ikon fork springs are much longer (and better) than the OEM so the spacer length requires reducing.
I am 72kg all kitted up and the bike works great for me! Enjoy the pics.

I purchased the muffler/silencer from Feked in the UK. It is only a silencer by name - no baffles, straight through with the obligatory perforated inner tube and packing. It ships with all the mounting hardware plus clamp and reduction sleeves.
It is a straight silencer and the upsweep is something I created from a BSA header pipe I found in a mates garage. The silencer is very light and quality is great!
I checked the Feked website but I cannot find it anymore.
I can go back through my purchase history and find tge part number and shoot a message to them with a part number if you want - but remember it is a noisy little sucker (but very nice).

Found it KC - from Feked - part number fkunv42n.You will have to source the upsweep section. I was lucky enough to get the right angle so the silencer mounting point lined up with the OEM bolt hole on the loop!

Hi OLD FELLA, thanks for replying. It's only the upswept part that I'm looking for. When I bought mine the only bend I could find was 15 degrees. Your set up looks much better.

Got tired of my GT trying to kill me in bends and over bumps so after today's ride I pulled the forks out to change the oil. While it's apart I noticed the headstem bearings are very notchy so pulled them out too. They're a mess. rusty and pitted. I've had a look online for replacement bearings but my google fu has failed me. I guess I'll see if the local dealer can help. I doubt it. I know Hitchcock can sell me a set of tapered bearings and I'll do that if I have to but if I can find a set of standard ones I don't mind not spending the $300 the tapered ones will set me back. Simple fork oil change nothing...
