I need to replace the old OEM CEAT tyres that came on the bike after now riding around 6000KM, what are recommended replacements?

Looking for 90/10 tyres as I occasionally ride on poorly maintained rural roads.

What are people using?

I have Bridgestone Battlax BT46. It is difficult to find any other brand in the right size in the Netherlands. Bridgestone is a brand with good reviews
The Ceat were not worn out, but I had to change them because of punctures.

I use Heidenau K60 tyres which I fitted in May to my classic. 1500 miles (230kms) later they have proved to be a good choice. Good on gravel tracks, good on tarmac and good in the wet.

I have ordered the Metzeler Roadtec 01 tyres front and back. They are still on their way to New Zealand, I believe from outer space, as this has taken a long time!

I know Dexter loves them, and I did my own rather thorough research to conclude they were ever so slightly better than the BT46s (also realllly great tyres) on paper for touring purposes.

Ooh they manage to look good somehow. Have they had any negative effects e.g roadnoise or lower mpg?

They whine a bit, but I’m not personally bothered about that, easy going chap that I am. I’ve had them on other bikes so it’s what I expected.

I believe Marc Stones put Heidenau on his Classic 350, for around town, but also uses BattleAx for touring.

He vlogs under his real name (I presume) about his RE and some scooters at https://www.youtube.com/@Marc.Stones , and also as Scooteria at https://www.youtube.com/@Scooteria (where he concentrates on Vespas, mostly).

You might want to skim some of his videos, but as I recall he was very pleased with both choices.
Cheers,

I have put Mefo Sport Explorer on my Classic. As good as the Heidenau I had on my Triumph Scrambler but quieter.

I'm going with Dunlop 404's next time .   Those 6,000 miles tires just wear out to fast.  The idea of New Tires - every time it's time to change oil don't seem right ...  ::)    I had a pair of those BT46's for my second pair , I'm on my third pair now Shinko "F" and Kenda "R" .
......................

I had Shinko 705's Dual Sport tires on a DR200 I had for a while and they were quite and grippy on pavement and Super in the dirt.    I replaced the DR200 with the Meteor 350 ... same HP but a lot more power.  :)

So from everyone's experience is 6000km pretty much the expected life span of the OEM CEATs?

I wouldn't count on that.

Tire wear depends on a bunch of factors, like how heavily the bike is loaded, by different sized riders or the loads they carry, how carefully tire pressures are maintained, how heavy on the brakes one rider is compared to the next, what kinds of roads one is riding on, whether the suspension is all properly aligned, how fast one likes to accelerate from a stop and probably some more I haven't thought about here.

You might get more, or less mileage, depending on all those factors.

I generally have run tires just to the wear bars for decades, unless they were near there before setting off on a multi week tour, when I would change them a bit early to avoid doing a change while on a trip.

Mine where over 10 000km and far from worn. But I decided to swap them before our one week trip because weather forecasts where « rainy » and we planed to do some gravel.

Thanks. Love it. Can go far and everywhere with comfort. But not very quickly. Doesn’t matter, I take the time.
