Title: Dirty Oil Screen?
Post by: Catbird on July 29, 2013, 12:21:56 am
I have a new Royal Enfield Military.  I have read the literature and watched the youtube videos, however I don't recall any advice for the preferred cleaning procedure.  If left up to me, I'd probably swish it around in a small container of gasoline and dry thoroughly with compressed air before reinstalling.

Is there a better method?

Do you have a UCE engine or an Iron Barrel?

It sounds like a UCE.
If it is, cleaning the oil screen that covers the mouth of the pump inlet by swishing it around in a solvent and blowing it dry is fine.

Just make sure the metal fragments and chips that are clinging to it are all removed. :)

While I'm writing, the face seal O-ring on the screen retainer will last for years and will always seal if it is just left in place and the metal surfaces are thoroughly cleaned.
