I just acquired a 535 and was hoping the pick up a chrome/black "Mr. Clean" tank. I have yet to find one that is not fit for a 650. Is there enough differences that I should be concerned with the application or possibility the two tanks are interchangeable? I don't have an issue modifying the tank, within reason, but I would like to know what I'm getting into first. I would be grateful to here from an expert before digging in.

Be an expert. Look at a parts fiche and check the part numbers.

The mounting features certainly look similar, ... but not identical.   It appears to my eye that the Conti 650 tank has a larger internal cavity.

Yes, Farmer John, that would be a practical way to get what i want, I like that idea. Back in the 80's we use to chrome all kinds of stuff on our Vespa's. But, the times have changed and they are making it real hard to get real gasoline in California, let alone find a chrome shop here in Fresno. DMV,DOT,EPA, they get ya chroming or going. Everything costs more out here in California.
