One of the things I really like about the GT is the rear set pegs. When I first sat on the GT at the NYC Motorcycle Show at the Javits Center in 2018 I loved the seating position, but the bars felt a bit too far forward and low. The stock seat however put me in a good place with the bars, just barely. When I had the stock seat re-worked by Sargent, there was no difference in seating height. However, the Sargent saddle just didn't seem to like my fat butt very much, even though it is a zillion times better than stock.
So, I went with a Corbin. We won't discuss the difficulties I had with getting the damned thing off as the pin caught on the back of the release, big time. Three hours of grinding and prying finally got it to fit, but I digress. The Corbin seat put me up an inch, and the sweet spot on the saddle is back a bit from stock. Now the bars really didn't work.
I pondered the options, and ordered a set of those fork tube risers so I could mount the bars on top of the triple clamps. But of course after ordering those, I remembered a set of clip on risers that I got from MPH Cycles in Houston for my Moto-Guzzi V11 Sport. These risers come as a kit with the hydraulic lines for brakes and clutch, but I asked Mike Haven if he could just send me the risers. And indeed he could for $85.00. You can find them here:
https://mphcycles.com/handle-bar-risers/Once I got them, another issue is that the holes for the bars is set at 21.8 mm and the RE bars are 22.2 mm, of course. So a good friend with a conveniently located machine shop in his garage bored them out and also made me a set of billet short tubes for the bottom of the clamps to connect the original riser hole with the new risers.
Installed the last week and went for a nice 260 mile ride and it's perfect. The bars are 2 in higher, and I was able to angle them back by about an inch. The design of the risers allows for the brake hose and clutch cable to fit when angled back. Now I have a comfy seat and perfectly placed handlebars. If you get them, you'll have to have a competent machinist bore out the holes for the RE bars, and possibly get some shim stock for the included slugs to fit into the RE riser holes.
