Here is a quick look at the Royal Enfield 650 twin on a dyno.

44.36 rear wheel horsepower !

That tells me, the real horsepower at the crankshaft must be better than 55.

So far we have seen 42-45. Not bad, It doesn't have to have over 50hp on the crank because they got rid of the primary chain which might be worth one or two hp in transmission losses.

Nice! And it sounds good too! RE confirmed that the GT will come with the stepped, 2 person seat, and the rear seat cowl, that converts it to the single seater cafe style, will be a clip on. I think I want the white one, though it is $250 more than the blue one, my 2nd favorite. Very nice bike. Thanks for posting.

The old iron barrel bullets showed about 7 hp drive train losses. Presumably this new model should be better than that.

I'd say 50 hp at the crank.

Meanwhile back in the real world it's only putting down 26bhp while travelling at 70mph (in still air) .

Perhaps adding more usable power is (still) going to be left in the hands of the owner  8)

Individual dyno results vary. 70mph would be about 4500 rpm.
A decent estimate based on various posted dyno charts for a stock UCE Classic 500 at 4500 rpm would be 16.5 rwhp and 19 ft-lbs torque at 4500 rpm.

But with the typical user improvements like muffler and power commander it can get closer to the 650 twin. With a Fireball 535 GT, we can very nearly equal the 650 twin at any speed, and in some cases perhaps even beat the twin. Hitchcock claims over 40 rwhp for his UCE 612cc single.

In any case, it is an apples to oranges comparison because of the displacement category difference(except maybe for the Hitchcock 612 being close enough to the 650 class).

It would be an expectation for a 650 to have more power than a 500, and it does.
