Hello, I am getting ready to some work on my 2017 classic chrome 500.  Need to change the chain, rear and front sprocket.  i have been noticing a gas smell in my garage for a while.  There was a piece of paper on the ground next to my bike and I noticed a gas stain on the paper.  Upon inspection, I found that the front of the tank (right side, Kick start side) if I stuck my fingers up there, They came out slightly wet.  Very small leak, but a leak just the same.  What is up underneath the front of the tank on the right side that might be leaking?
Thanks,

That's a good question, but I don't recall what the underside of the classic tank looks like.  A couple years ago my Rumbler 500 (same bike as the Thunderbird 500 sold in India)  started leaking at the rear of the tank, a seam had broken. So I had it welded up and then applied a tank sealant on the inside.  Can't remember at the moment what the sealer is called, but it's a two part product and does a great job.  Seals and prevents further corrosion. Depending on what's going on inside your tank that might be the way to go.  The kit came with a cleaning agent to get the inside spic and span, then a degreaser to prepare the surface and finally the two part sealer.  If it's a pin hole or something similar that might be worth your while to do.

OK. Had a quick DuckDuckGo session and here's the kit I used.

If the leak is indeed coming from the front right of the tank, there's not much there to leak except a seam.

I had two leaky tanks, both went at the same place.
The spot welds that hold the flat plate that the tank supports are welded to had fractured.
Just a very slow weep, you smell it first.
Off route, recalculate?

I bought my 2012 C5 EFI in 2013 new. The fuel tank started leaking from a seam after about 8 months. Enfield replaced the tank under warranty. No furthur leaks after 9 years.

Many years ago when tanks used to rot out I would finish off after the repair by mixing up some fibreglass resin and run it round inside the tank. Obviously the dedicated kits weren’t around then.

It looks like you can still buy new tanks from eBay as a backup option.
