Title: Jay Leno's Garage shoot
Post by: Kevin Mahoney on May 04, 2011, 11:37:13 pm
here are some more pictures that my son (Taylor Mahoney photography taylor25@gmail.com  .  http://taylormahoneyphotography.com/  (http://taylormahoneyphotography.com/)  .says his proud father). took at the shoot we did this past weekend in Los Angeles. We really had a great time.

Jay took delivery of his new G5 which he picked out from Mike at NoHo Scooters/RE of Los Angeles's store in North Hollywood.

That is his G5. Thankfully after he rode it he really liked it. It will look good in his collection.

What a nice PR score for RE USA! I hope Jay does a nice piece on the bike: that will definitely sell a few bikes, because lots of us old geezers look to Jay for cool stuff that's unique or under-appreciated. I'd say Jay raised awareness for vehicles like steam cars, turbine engine cars, and Merlin aircraft engined-cars 1000% over the past decade. He's made it cool to NOT have 1000 HP under the hood, but rather something more unusual.

It was very clear to me that he is all about unusual stuff. He had a very cool car that was made by a 16 year old kid in the 1930's. When he wanted a car his dad told him to build his own so he did. The kid drove is across country several time. The car was going to be scrapped  and somehow Jay found it. The car is probably worth $10,000 on a good day. Jay spent about $100,000 restoring it as a piece of history. He is not stupid and spends money becuase he has it, but rather because it is notable. As far a steam goes he has several steam cars most of which I had never heard of. (everyone knows the Stanley Steamer). He also had quite a few stationary steam engines (some of them are HUGE) in his collection. A very large steam tractor was also there. He knows about each of them in great detail. Probably more detail than 99% of the people that are into such things.

Always good PR and Jay unlike a lot of guys with money that "collect" cars to have them he actually knows them and works on them and drives them all. He certainly has more cred when discussing them than a lot of rich folks that have a garage full of showpieces.
