whats the difference between the c5 and the g5?
i'm thinking of a c5 military.
-
Basically, the G5 is the new UCE engine in an electra frame - has a kickstart. The C5 model is a new design - including tinwork and frame - with the UCE - no kickstart.
To make it a little more confusing, RE produced a G5 Miitary model for the US market in 2009. Replaced in 2010 with the C5 Military... new model C5's coming out next year or so... think they'll all have a kicker...
I haven't looked REAL close, but it looks like a lot of the frame and chassis parts are NOT interchangable between the C5/G5... where a lot of the G5 stuff could be shared with the "classic" design... I'll let the experts weigh in... ;)

Looks like SOMEBODY'S been paying attention!! ;) BRAVO! That just about says it with the exception of the wheel diameter - 18" on the C5 - the traditional 19" on the G5.

Yes. all that stuff you guys mentioned, both cool bikes, etc...etc, But you forgot to mention the C-5 is cooler and faster, especially in Black. ::)
Welcome motorat !

Black MAY be the fastest colour ....... but Battle Green is the stealthiest ...... ;D

Chrome is the fastest. Plus it reflects light which causes temporary blindness and qualifies as a built in defense mechanism so it does not need stealth. ;D ;D
-
Will the new Bullet Black have a kick start? Obviously is should, but does anyone know for sure ?
-
thanks for the replies. i'll be looking at the c5 when the weather clears up a bit.
and i hear the olive drab green is the fastest color because it doesn't have all that reflection and shiny bits messing up the air flow.
-
Drab green causes significant drag - it is as dull and plodding as it looks. It's been established here, definitively, that for looks, performance, and the very definition of authentic retro Brit bike cool - black and chrome combined, as per the G5 de-luxe, is the only choice for those in the know. ;)
-
Actually - If you'd want to get TECHNICAL about it ........ Peacock BLUE and chrome is the fastest ..... of course that'd be Iron Barrel fast - and you have use a sundial to verify it .... unless it's FireBalled ....... ::)
-
Been spending the last few weeks removing "shiny" from my new C5 Military... should be able to get pics up this weekend... ;) 'Ol Stumpy is getting jealous from lack of attention... ;D

Actually I could go with blue and chrome. And there's a really nice orange & chrome job in Members Rides, Gregorin's bike I think. But you gotta have CHROME for speed and style..... ;)

I'll show you MINE if you show me YOURS ...... ::) I'd like to think I'm piecing together (from scratch and dent, abandoned under the workbench crap) the bike that one would EXPECT to see in military service ....... We'll see, eh? We may have TWO of the best ones in the world ..... ;D
-
Mike If your wife catches wind of you calling her "ol stumpy" you might be sleeping with your new C5 military! Nigel

Dang UTT!! - You weren't supposed to post 'til the weekend!! Hahaha!! OK - I'll try to get some pix up today, then ...... That's some pretty stiff competition, tho ..... ;)

Just wanted everyone to know that everywhere I stop on my Black and Chrome G5 Deluxe, I draw a small crowd ! I recently stopped at a truck stop on my way back from Lake Tahoe and had six guys checking out the bike and two taking pictures. It's a great conversation starter....very cool way to meet new people.

The nice folks at CMW have supplied me with a pocketful of their Royal Enfield fliers... I hand out four or five a day sometimes during the summer... ;)

I carry a few of my dealer's cards to hand out, everyone wants to know about them.
-
OK - Here is my best effort so far ..... it ain't perfect and it ain't finished yet, either - so don't beat me up TOO badly ..... :-\ It's mostly put together from scratch and dent, returned "won't fit" and other stuff deemed unusable by the general public. I'll post some pix when I get it all the way done and detailed out the way I want it ....... if I live that long! Hahaha!

Well - Now you know the secret to finding your bike in a crowded parking lot ..... look for the throng of admirers! Hahaha! You'd better get used to that ....... ;)

You can do ANYTHING with a Sawz-All, some junque parts and a welder ...... ::) - oh - and don't forget the frosty, fermented beverage of inspiration ....... ;)

Ah yes, the old hell with a hammer and a devil with a torch routine! :D

Now you are talking my language.....My brothers ;) Good old Irish ingenuity as a good friend would say. That is a pair of militarys done right! Cool as hell !
Scooter, I'm noticing a G-5 engine in a C-5 frame, No? Love those ammo boxes and the rear fender rack, modified from a C-5 passanger seat perhaps? Nicley done. Use what you got and make it work, like it was there all the time. Damn, now I want one of them to :P

The Irish ingenuity on THAT bike was just enough G5 parts to make it a kickstart bike!! The other side (and most of the rest of it) is all C5 .... it's QUITE the little hybrid! Hahaha! I was diggin' through piled up boxes of detritus from three popped engines (not REM's fault on any of them!) to get the needed "raw bits" on that one. The rear rack is Electra, the part that it's on is the bombastically strong rear C5 pillion frame - the seat went out as a warranty and both metal pieces were scrounged from the dumpster (scratched, bent). The "ammo boxes" are actually Iron Barrel Military panniers (old rattling JUNK! Haha!) that were modified to fit the C5. They were modified on my Iron Barrel bike by a Pontiac that punted my sorry butt about 20 feet - so they were perfect to do the "stomp fit" onto the C5 ..... I think it has that rough and tumble look for the discriminating military enthusiast (read - no two pieces the same green! Haha!) - but with enough little details to keep the eyes moving and the face grinning. It also RUNS like a little minx as well ..... it was assembled from JUST the right combination of "almost new" and "nearly new" ..... ::) I'm really tickled that you think it's cool! Thanks!!

Hahaha! This is like what I've often said about painting ...... "If you can't paint - learn to sand and buff ..." I think it's the same basic technology here ..... ;)

Thanks, SB... now I've gots lots more ideas floating around in the noggin...
This is "green technology" that I understand... ;)
