Title: L.E.D. Turn Signals
Post by: eae0164 on October 23, 2007, 05:38:08 am
I was wondering if anyone has replaced the stock turn signals with L.E.D. ones. I'm not sure if they will work with the stock flasher unit on the bike. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks :)

Well I have mates with them on BMW's etc and can't say I'm impressed. They don't have the distribution of light that a normal bulb does. Fine from directly behind but slightly to the side and they aren't so good. I suspect they WILL get better when manufactureres realise that they need a curved spread of them so that they shine/can be seen from many angles. I had a pair of LED ones in the tail/stop light of my Honda VTR. Have gone back to bulbs!!!!!!

I found one for the stop-tail that not only has them facing rear but has a ring around the base that werks GREAT!!

I have always been worried about getting reared at night.  As far as the turns go; if
somebody is on my ass in daylight, I hand signal and weave a little.

There are a few companies making led replacement bulbs that make light the whole way around. I guess they've realized the directional bulbs dont always work out with reflector lighting systems. That HID light co. has some good prices. Has anyone dealt with them? You would need the 1156 bulbs for the turnsignals, 1157 for the brake-tail. I haven't tried it but I would guess an electronic flasher would work those bulbs. One more thing to think about with led bulbs is how much more quickly they light-up. Gives the cellphone-talking driver another split second to notice.

I guess I'll try the bulbs to see how they work. I figured the LED's would be a good idea to lessen some of the load on the alternator. Thanks for all the input  !! ;D

Does the led taillight have provisions to illuminate the license plate? Ohio cops are pricks about plate illumination. I hated the looks of the factory turn signals, and eliminated the rear ones in favor of led's mounted to the licence plate bracket. I replaced the front turn signals with 7 amber super bright's in the parking light's. The flasher is faster, but still works.

I went for these as cheap as chips (sorry French, ooops........ Freedom Fries). Got all four including amber lenses and these smoke amber ones seen fitted here for the equivalent of 20 US dollars!!!!

Have 23w bulbs so had to change the flasher unit. Direct swop for a Suzuki GS1000 unit that was sitting around in a mates garage.

yes. They serve the same function as the standard 1157 bulb cept it is a state of bright and brighter IPO the 2 element 1157.  I used the Part#: 1157-31W with 12 led's around the base  from

Yes; the tail IS BRIGHTER.
