Sounds like a great time!  It's been a while since I had a chance to more than putter around town on my Rumbler.  Thanks for sharing that ride with us!

Another oil change today. The last change was performed by my local dealer at the 2 year / 20,000 km service, at the end of the warranty period.

So you can understand my surprise to find the oil filter cover in two parts; one of the ears had been snapped off. Possibly the cover wasn't perfectly aligned during reassembly, who knows.

The upshot is a new cover ordered, and a makeshift repair with JB Weld. I am hopeful that the repair will cure and be sufficiently strong to allow use of the bike while the replacement part makes it's way to New Zealand.

As with my last Enfield, in future all servicing will be conducted in my own workshop.

Photos are of the cover joined and about to be clamped for the next 24hrs.

Been sometime since I ..... ok fitted a 1960s Yamaha DS6 tank. I know die hard RE fans have just keeled over. My bike I do as I like to it. Solo saddle back on.

That's an obvious case of misalignment of the shoulder before tightening the cap screws. At  100 dollars an hour, why can't they be more careful? Ya' know why? 'cuz it's not their bike.

       It didn't leak?

I bet the JB Weld will hold up until you get the new cover.  :)

Looks nice.  Maybe not "original", but it's "period" and looks like it fits right in.  How does capacity match up with the original?  I've gotten spoiled with the 5 gallon tank on the Rumbler. I think it's the largest tank RE's put on any of their bikes. The Super Meteor even has a smaller tank. Anyway, yours looks nifty!

It's things like that that are very irritating.  One of the dealerships managed to strip one of the drain plug holes on my Rumbler 500.  They put it back in with teflon tape... had to have it bored out and fitted with a coil thread thingie (why can't I recall the proper term?)  So far, so good.  JB weld should keep you rolling until the new part arrives. Bummer you've got to appeal to such measures though.

The DS6 tank is 11 litres. So down 3 litres.

Helicoil or Time Sert are two brands of thread repair systems.

Helicoil... couldn't drag that up to save my hide. Thanks!

As for what I did with my RE today, wiped the Rumbler down down, put it up on its centerstand and plugged in the battery tender as it's going to be a couple weeks at least 'til I can ride again.

New front and rear tyres fitted today. Dunlop K70s. 400x18. The get front to fit had the raise the front guard with some new holes drilled and small extension brackets made. Bike is taller. When on centre stand both wheels touch the ground but not so it is unstable. Rode around town and they feel good. Looks like I may have pinched the front tube. Its loosing 1psi an hour at the moment. Easy fix just have to be very careful not to pinch the next tube as well.

You might notice I removed the tool boxes from both sides too. Have hidden all the electrics in the r/h side fake oil tank.

No it came off one of my other true vintage bikes.
Its too small to be comfortable for this bike so have removed it.

I put the seat back on that the original owner had fitted when i bought the bike. It was fully brown and i used leather dye to add the black. Its very comfy. I have done 500km days in this seat.
