I've made that mistake of filling up on the center stand and going right home from the station. Always a mess.  Now if I am heading home I fill on the side stand to avoid the overfill.  I like the tank as full as possible to avoid moisture and rust.

I thought about this, too - it's what I do.

But, I think the Rumbler's fuel filler opening is offset - to the right side.  Topping it right up when the bike is leaned to the left on the side stand might worsen the situation...

Good point.   I had him fill it on the center stand, and then parked the bike on the side stand on a slight slope - and it STILL caused problems.  Oh well, it gave me a good excuse to play hooky from the office!  :)

Replaced a leaky valve core and adjusted the chain.  Second adjustment now @ 8500 mi.  Sprockets and chain looking good.  Then went for a thirty mi. test run.  All O K ---

As luck had it (or not) managed to find the part of my crankcase that got obliterated when the chain snapped.

Found front sprocket has nice little ridges on it after taking cover off so going for the whole chain/sprocket change now.

So, what's the final butcher's bill on the crankcase?  Is it just "cosmetic" damage?

@ mattsz (can't quote in Edge)

Yeah I think so, I can't see any cracks or other damage. Might have more mess with lube possibly now nothing will be currently covering the top of the front sprocket. Not going to use any metal weldy epoxy stuff either to rejoin it. Can't imagine a trade in value will ever be as good as it could be with a portion of case missing so can't threaten the bike with that anymore and looks like we're in it together for the long haul now lol.

Ordered a 46mm socket.

JB-Weld a tiny fender over the gap - just to keep your right leg clean?

I took advantage of the first sunny day with above freezing temperature that I had time off work and went out for a ride on my freshly waxed shiny chrome maroon C5.

I cruised over to an area with windy roads on hills and a beautiful view of Puget Sound with snow covered Olympic Mountains. Everything was perfect.  After a while, I turned into a park and as I wound down the entrance drive, there was a gentleman and his wife with a Ural sidecar rig.

Not surprisingly we had a great conversation about Urals with sidecars, and Royal Enfields.  The funny thing is just last night I was up late reading all about the Cozy sidecars on Kevins new sidecar site; http://www.cyclesidecar.com/showroom/index.html  and today I meet a guy with a sidecar in a neighborhood park ... who would have thunk it?

This ride was long overdue and I really enjoyed it.

I lubed my chain, then went for out for a ride and got it and the rest of the bike very very dirty.

Went out for what turned out to be a 150mile jaunt today and the Odo clicked over to 4334 as I pulled in to fill up the tank at my local petrol station. I didn't bother putting the ear plugs back in and whilst pulling away I heard this horrible graunching noise emanating from this quality Indian bearing  ::)

Fortunately I have another in my odds'nsods bin.  Unfortunately it probably came off the same production line  >:(
