Wrecked.

Sorry to hear it, lemming!  That's a hard lesson to learn, but I'm glad you're ok!!!  I ride over a crosswalk on my commute - it's fancy smooth red brick with painted borders, and it's in the middle of a sweeping bend, so I probably tend to ride over it too fast.  I will be careful to learn from your misfortune!

My 2011 B5 is exactly the same.  Doesn't hurt the running though.  No easy answer so i have just left it  ;D

Well... once the cosmetic damage is done, it's a hassle to repaint or replace the parts.  But unless there's an actual defect, it's a dealer setup issue, and it is quite easy to readjust things so they don't continue to chafe...

Thanks all. The roads were mostly dry from the sun just peeking out, but the white striping doesn't warm up like black asphalt, so it was still wet. As slow as I was going, it was still too fast. First gear is a good standard for crossing striping like that. I was in second, but not even under throttle. Just physics kicking my butt.

Had a little 178 mile ride to lunch today.  Rode with two Norton Commandos and a V7Guzzi.  My 27 HP held up very well on the tight and twisty roads on the main divide road and DeLuz between the Ortega Hwy and Fallbrook getting 73 MPG.  Those of you in So Cal will know these roads.  Could have used a bit more suspension but all in all a great ride.  As usual no problems with this bike.  All I have done is change the oil and adjust the chain in over 6000 miles.  I must thank my dealer for a proper set up and a well delivered machine.

I do the back road twisties to Tahoe and Yosemite, it has made a world of a difference since I've put the Hagons on.

Sorry to hear. I'm paranoid about those paint markings as well, so I really try to be cautious. But you never know..

Got my new head pipe and gasket on, Bike's now rideable...if it ever stops raining that is. There were Whitecaps in the parking lot when I was working on the bike.

BTW if you ever have a little buzzy rattle check the wire heat shield. Mine was loose and making a racket, nothing a quick couple of steel pop rivets couldn't fit...and did.

Glad you're ok Lemming. I had more or less the same thing a year ago and bust the 1st bones in my life! I was more annoyed at that than coming off.

In other news .... hoping to get a good ride in tomorrow with neighbours with the good weather forecast.

It's that darn thermoplastic that the street and road maintenance folks use instead of paint.  The stuff lasts forever, but it gets slick when wet or if oil gets on it.  It also melts into an ugly mess if you put a road flare on it (ask me how I know).

At least you can see the painted (plastic?) lines. I hate "Tar Snakes" they get me all the time. Luckily what happen most of the time is the bike side steps a couple of inches and  settles back down. I have been lucky but almost had the KLR swap ends and ended up riding off into a farmers field.

You'd think they could mix in some grit of some kind to improve traction. Or something. Oof.

My 2015 B5 has been a joy, now with 245 miles the only problem was a loose upper shock absorber mount nut.  My dealer in Fremont CA was very thorough and even shipped it to a local bike shop since I am 250 miles away.  There is a wire heat shield where the muffler expands to full diameter.  Unfortunately, that is where my boot heel comes through during kick starts.  My shield has since departed and is not going back on.  A wonderful ride at sunrise dodged the 100+ temperature.
