New sport exhaust and filter have given mine a tendency toward popping on the overrun and the occasional hooliganish burp out the pipe. Apologies if I wake you with a bang some morning as I turn off South Middlebrook.....

Turning onto Rt 7?  I can see that intersection from my house.  You'd have to be pretty early to wake me tho, I'm up at 4am and heading down Plank Rd by 4:45, Winooski bound.

Yup, I usually take Green Rd. until South Middlebrook, then hop on 7 up to N. Ferr., where I pop over to lower Spear for the rest of the ride. I will definitely not be waking you, though....I go through around 7:20-7:30.

That is one seriously cool bike, and the screens on the side cover really make it.  ;D 8)

Mine is still missing in a similar fashion.  I have also developed a problem that I never had before installing the new silencer and PCV, it backfires.  Not often and usually just one load pop.  Never had that before........

Do you know which of the actions you took eliminated the problem?  Spark plug, loose connection, injector cleaning?

I think with the aftermarket silencer you're going to run into backfires. Switching out to the cooler plug helped though, as did the PCV. Didn't eliminate it, but the backfiring is certainly less aggressive.

My 7" headlight fell out again.
Fortunately, the wires kept it from hitting the pavement so it just rattled against the top of the front fender as I came to a stop.

After getting it re-installed and getting home I studied the issue.

This isn't the first time this has happened.  The last time it did, I decided the steel retainer clamp wasn't applying enough force inside the top of the outer chrome headlight ring because it was too short.
That time, I used some soft lead solder to build up the outer ends of the steel clamp and it hasn't given me trouble for about a year.

Looking at the solder on the clamp today, it was obvious the outer ring had been vibrating directly against it and had pounded it down causing the ring to become unclamped (even though the clamp screw was still tight).

To avoid this hammering (swaging) on the soft solder in the future, I cut a thin.030" (0.76mm) piece of brass stock just slightly larger than the working surface of the metal clamp where it touches the headlight rim.

After "tinning" the piece of brass, I soldered it in place and then filed it down to the same width and length of the clamp.
This essentially added about .040" (1mm) to the height of the clamp.

It seemed to tighten up against the inside of the headlight ring very nicely.
Hopefully, the brass will make a much harder surface for the vibration to work on and it will last this time. :)

Arizoni, Hitchcock's sells a longer headlight clamp. P/N 141636, for inner rings 23mm or wider.

I'm with Arizoni, I'd rather fix something than give Mr. H anymore money than I have to.  Nice fix.  Much easier fix than when my headlight mounting ears sheared off and my entire headlight was dangling.    :o

Well, sure. There is nobility in a cobbled solution, and there are plenty of those on my bike for sure. Just layin' down the knowledge.

Of course.  I was just implying I'd rather fix for cheap than give Hitchcock's $8 for a 30 cent screw.   ;)

Not sure If I'll go back to a local old school bike shop who supplied and fitted a new Avon Speedmaster for me last week. Didn't feel too great and on further inspection the beads didn't look equal. Spent the last couple of hours rectifying that. Fitted a new Oxford V8 controller for the heated grips to replace the busted V7 I had on there last weekend.
