For those who don't look at the Vintage category, here are some pics of what I have going on with my old twin.  I'm getting the bike ready for the cafe conversion I'm doing to it.  You can see from the 1st pics that initially the tank looked really REALLY ugly after whacking it with a ball peen hammer for 20 minutes.  Also, notice the large pile of paint and body filler that fell off of the tank.

After about an hour of grinding off old paint, another 30 minutes of hammering and 4.5 hours of spreading filler and blocking mud, this is what I turned it into.  I have about 1 more hour of sanding and it will be ready for primer.

Pretty big dimples up front.  I can see why it took so much effort.

I wanted it artsy AND functional.  By doing it this way, it leaves my options for handle bars wide open.  Plus, once it is in paint, you'll see why I did it like I did.  I'm going all in on this paint job.  ;)

Had her die this morning just before I threw over, had to take the car  :(
Think coil wiring came loose, have a play tomorrow and she'll be right.

I have had that happen before on my way into work.  Started misfiring really bad about 5 miles from work.  When I got there I found that the positive terminal for the coil was loose and barely holding onto the coil terminal.  I squished the wire terminal so it would hold tighter on the coil and has been fine since.

Turns out I'd been bad and not watched my point gap in awhile and they had closed up, regapped and bike runs amazingly well, except when I loose compression from dislodging all that carbon shit from poor running and a valve gets sticky  :-[

One solid hour breakdown with half compression and a backfire cleared it and a half splutter-pull over-restart fine moment I think it'll be fine and better haha

Friday rode the return of my 120 mile commute, looks like mpg at high speed (70mph+) is around 71miles per uk (imperial) gallon. Which is the same as before the mods so a more sedate pace should return around the 90mpg I was seeing previously.
I have also obtained a pair of Dark Green 1958 pattern British army waxed canvas haversacks that can strap together and be used as panniers. I have kept the Givi pannier frames on the bike so I still have a hard case option, the haversacks straps loop over the seat and between the rear of the seat and grab handle, there is also a clipped strap that I have used to loop behind the Givi frames to hold the haversacks tight against the bike.
the carrying capacity is near double over the Givi panniers but are much slimmer when empty, ideal for what I need.

I'm going to paint the front dimples white and then do 2 or 3 coats of gold and white pearl then 3 more coats of clear.  Then the stripes will be painted and decals applied and then 4 more coats of clear.  :)
