rode to work today....and that charcol filter fell off and landed in my tool box at home. what are the odds of that happening.

Maybe a message from the beast to get it off and leave it that way!

After a hiatus of a month, I'm back on the road again with a new red/chrome C5. After the rain stopped, I took a little ride of 14 miles and she's running beautifully. 55 miles on the OD. Motorcycle nirvana!  ;D

Rigger:  I hope they didn't charge you anything for adjusting your valves.
The new UCE's have hydraulic self adjusting valve lifters so there is no adjustment. ;D

Sunny Skies with puffy clouds, 75 degrees, 40% humidity ....   I'm at work sitting in a block building catching an occasional glance out the window at my B5 gleaming in the sun & waiting to whisk me home via the old river road .......

I agree. I took two long test rides on C5s yesterday and just wanted to keep going it was so enjoyable. After reading this and other forums for months I was surprised how well the bikes handled, I even cranked the speed right up and there was no shake or shimmy at all. Idle was smooth and stable on both bikes. I ended up purchasing one. I've owned a lot of bikes and this was one of the sweetest. Having said that I've owned a few niche bikes, including a Ural :( and understand the pitfalls one can have. Enjoy your bike.

No; I'm told it was checking them to be sure the lifters are actually doing their job, not a "valve adjustment" in the classic sense. The whole ordeal was less than us$80.

The wheel is back on my bike. Having the shop change the tire cost $100. I bought some large beefy (16") tire levers so next time I can do the tire change myself.

YIKES!   $100 to change a tyre?  :o  You've been had.
Just this afternoon I took my rear wheel and the new tyre to the local tyre place and gave the bloke a fiver as usual to change it. Fifteen minutes.
Ask around your local tyre shops, see if someone will do it in their lunch hour. And I'd be inclined to go back to that place and tell em just what a bunch of thieves they are. >:(

I've had two tires changed for slightly over $100. these bike shops are getting extremely expensive. I hate paying as much to get the tires changed as I did for the tires!
I have a guy now that will do 2 for $20 if I take the wheels off.

A question to the wise :

So the C5 and G5 have different sized wheels.

Other than the sligh lowered look in the case of C5, and probably slightly easier turning, is there any other difference ?

The availability of suitable tires ........  19 inch tire selection is limited.

The speedometer needle has been kind of nervous or twitchy lately.  I removed the cable from the bottom and cleaned it carefully.  There was only some light grease/oil on the bottom 1/3 of the cable.  Used some white grease on the cable most of the way up and then carefully ran it back up, had to twist the cable a little to get it to feed back into the speedometer head and tightened it down at the wheel.

Went for a short ride.  The needle is still not steady, bounces 3 or 4 mph at 50 mph (indicated)  ???.   I might try a different grease next time.

Despite the nasty weather rode about 150 mile round trip, stopped at a dealer to check out some bikes and buy a few t's, then hit up a bike show and grabbed some lunch. I had a nasty noise from the left side of the motor a few times while I was getting lunch. I think my auto decompressor came apart again, I'm afraid the sprag clutch may have given up the ghost. I'm going to do an oil change soon, think I'll just go ahead and pull the cases to check things out. If it looks ugly I'll button her back up and get it to the dealer. That auto decompressors been a pain in my ass, this is the third time I'll have to have it fixed.

Exactly what is your autodecompressor doing?
When I first start mine up on a coolish morning, it clacks and rattles for awhile before it gets the RPM enough to keep it disengaged. Noisy, but no harm done. You can crack the throttle a bit to  keep it above the clacking threshold until it warms up a bit. The decompressor release is about 850 RPM as I recall. It will activate below that. You can hear the blowby when it's open and the idle slows even more.
Anyway, if that's your symptom, there's nothing wrong with it. Just a bit annoying.

replaced the clear pilot lamps with amber, and (finally) got around to mounting up the BPF 7 inch lens assembly.  Took it for a ride after dusk, and, I *really* like the short-range fan shaped headlight !
