There are many different oil filters one could use. Outside of the showroom floor, there has never been a "RE" oil filter on my bike. Nothing wrong with them if that's what you want.

really? which ones have you been fitting on your 650 then?

Right now I'm using a Wix 57046, before that a K+N PS-1004. If the bike was orange I would try a Fram. Thread size and pop- off pressure need to be same as stock. The stock filter gasket seems to be slightly thicker, which is a good thing, but that can by switched out . There must be at least 20 filters that will work fine on our 650's.

As discussed numerous time in the past, the smart thing is to use genuine parts and the correct oil spec whilst the bike is in warranty. It’s not as if the filter costs a fortune.

Micron rating and flow rating are also important. But it's really hard to find a spin on filter in any particular size category that deviates at all far from every other filter of the same size.

That said, my dealer doesn't do highway robbery, so I have been buying my filters from him. And then again, now that my bike is out of warranty, I may switch to Wix filters. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if a Honda Civic or Toyota Corolla filter would be a completely suitable replacement available right here in town instead of the next county over.

I hope that cleared everything up.

It would have been much appreciated if RE had put a spin on filter on the 350 engine!   >:(
