My girlfriend and I test drove a G5 and I loved it but she thought the rear of the bench was too narrow. I looked at the options on the NField Gear site and it seems the only viable option for long rides is the old-fashioned/Lycette copy pillion seat. Anyone have any experience with one or any other ideas?

Hmmm I bet you could get the pillion seat mounting bracket that comes off the shock towers and modify it to use a full solo seat and make it like a Chang Jiang style set up ;)

I have a G5 with the classic style seat you are speaking of. My wife has no complaints from it. I think the longest she has ridden on it is an hour though so there is no long ride opinion.

Thanks for the replies. We are planning a southwest tour in about five weeks. We will probably be spending around five hours in the saddle a day with frequent breaks. The trip is coming up so soon tho so we have to either move quick and get the G5 or take the 41 year old BMW we have. I like the solo saddle idea for a pillion seat. Don't know why I didn't think of it ;D

one of these on the rear part of the two up seat might solve the problem for the trip, and the rest of the you could use it on the main seat. It would also raise her slightly and so perhaps improve the view (instead of just seeing the back of your hellmet). Enjoy you trip; Nigel

just noticed at the bottom of that link there is a pillion cushion as well . so you could both ride on air. Nigel

When the "local" dealer told me there was no passenger pillion for the C5, I ordered the Butty Buddy. The dealer I bought from (Yea Fresno!) had pillions in stock and installed one, so I haven't tried the BB. It can be mounted on the fender, pillion or a rack I suppose. Seems like a well made part.

Ya Its worked out well for us. I bought the oem rear rack, and attach the BB to that. The straps go to under the fender supports.

I haven't seen these but all the reviews seem to talk about the comfort.

Yup my rider said it was the most comfortable one I've had. BTW here are the pics of the way I hooked it up.. Its very stable on the bike and easy to apply/remove. Scroll down till you see it..

The butt buddy looks like the way to go. I wish I had one of those to go on the KLR I sold. Unfortunately, not enough time to get an enfield before my big trip and get it sorted so I'm taking the old BMW. :-\ Thanks for the ideas tho. There's still room in the carport for an enfield when I get back. ;D
