Title: Riding the G Spot home
Post by: t120rbullet on March 28, 2009, 09:19:08 pm
The weather finally broke and I rode my G5 home yesterday.
Had to go about 25 miles and it was tough keeping it below 40 mph. It feels like it wants to GO.
I had to stop about 5 miles into the trip and move the shifter up a notch. Couldn't get my boot under it every time.

Here's my short list of cons,
Passenger pegs won't stay up. The little ball detent is a bit anemic for the job.
Handle bars are uncomfortable for me, hurt my wrist and shoulder.
Mirrors give me a nice view of my jacket pockets.
Can't think of anything else!
Everything else?  All pros!
The bike seems to be a bit heaver in the front than my older ones.
Very stable just like the older ones.

Put a couple of pics in "Members Rides".

Gotta go, got a real Enfield engine that's dying to get into a frame :D

Congratulations, I always respect your posts CJ and I look forward to hearing what you think of it as it breaks in and as you mod it.

Take care,

Man oh man oh man oh man!  Thats a sharp looking bike!   Im deep into saving up for that model even ask I type.  Especially love that front fender. One question, how adaptable is it for a solo seat?

Well, folks, do you now see how the "Electra looks evaporate" on the G5, after taking a look at the pictures CJ posted?  (The only reminders of the Electra are the capsule-looking tool boxes -- the box on the right side is the tool box; the one on the left side is a dummy.)

Brother Zonutt, you are correct, that "beefy" front fender is drop-dead-gorgeous!

My only question... What is the chrome pill under the tool box on the right side?

The chrome pill is the tool box.  The black cover, above the tool box, houses the air filter.

Nice bike! I hope at least one of the crates the importer for Greece has stuck at the customs in the port of Athens (for 2 weeks now, latest word: it'll take another week at least) will contain the Deluxe (DL) version of this one. Then it's only a solo saddle and a sports silencer away from me...  ;D
I wonder how a 21" trials front wheel would look on it, the Cretan mountains are in bloom and screaming out for me.

Thanks all.
My wife got nothing out of this deal. One can not give in every time.

If this one gives me 1/2 as good service as my 99 I'll be a happy man.
If it exceeds that I'll be even happier!

I haven't had a chance to go out on it again. Put the motor back in the 99 Sat. and had a booth at a swap meet on Sun.
Woke up this morning and everything was white again so I took the white one out this afternoon for my after work psychological realignment.
When will it ever end? (winter that is)

Nope, the weather is not being too cooperative at the moment. Plus working 6 days a week ain't leaving too much time.
I have been staring at in the garage though. It needs more places to hook bungee cords to before I take it on a trip.
The old classics had no end of places to hook things to all of which have been eliminated on the Electra chassis.
I wonder if the Electra chrome saddle bag brackets will fit the G5?

any chance of modifying that rack you've got on the "99" and mounting
it on the new one?? It seemed to be very functional and looked pretty good as well.

Iron Mike,
No, it mounted on the fender bracket and the rear seat mount. The G5 has neither.
I'll figure something out. Only trouble is when the HD fell over it knocked the Enfield over and it knocked Trump over and it fell over on my Mig welder. Everything has been fixed except the Mig welder. It needs a new hose as it won't feed wire anymore.
So my fab capabilities have been curtailed for the moment.
I will overcome!
