When I fitted the bar end mirrors I followed the instructions as follows "Remove the bar end weight fixing (1) bar end weight (2) and
spacer (3) from the left hand side of the handlebars. Retain the bar
end weight and fixing for reuse. Retain the spacer for reuse if the
accessory bar end mirror is removed."

I recall it needed a 5mm Allen key.  They came off easily enough.

Sorry, I thought you were asking how to remove them.

Yes, of course. I want to remove them but not only the chrome bar ends but also the weight, that are stuck into the handle bar.

I'm not sure if they are soldered into the handle bar.

As far as I understand it the weights are on the outside as I indicated and are easily removable.  The part that is inside contains the thread into which the weight fixing bolt screws and I would not expect that to be easily removable, or bar ends might be falling off all over the place!  Out of interest, why would you want to remove it?

I‘d like to install Halcyon bar end mirrors that have been left over from my SR500

I'm not sure if they are soldered into the handle bar.

If RE does bar ends weights as Honda has done and it would seem to be the best way to make sure they stay in place anyway, then the inserts have sharp multi row teeth that protrude outwards along their surface facing rearward, so that any movement out of the bar is very difficult, as those teeth bite into the metal of the handlebar.

They are pressed into the bar at the factory and while they are a bear to remove, I know there are some that have been able to do it on the Hondas. Prepare for a lot of choice words in the process!   ;)

Do you remember roughly how long the Honda inserts are? I’m picking up a 500 twin next month and the first thing on the list is to shorten the bars so I can get it down the side of the house away from prying eyes. 👀

It looks like I may have to take step back from my previous description of the Honda bar weight insert, as I found a picture of one. Now I can't remember where I saw a pic of the other type before. Possibly this will be what RE has utilized and it should be easier to remove. The rubber washers are holding the inserts in tightly. Looking at a RE parts fiche might show one.

It appears to be about 6 inches long and the method of removal was to reattach the screw that held the outer weight on and use a slide hammer to pull the assembly out. A liberal shot of lubricant into the handlebar might be helpful too.

👍👍 I happen to have something exactly like that thumbscrew in my odds&sods draw which came off my pre millennium Honda Hornet. I just knew it would come in handy one day!

Tried removing the inserts yesterday with no success. Before damaging anything I‘ve bit the bullet and ordered 2 mirror spacers from Hitchcocks. Will cost me about 40-50 EUR in the end. Shipping costs and customs fees.

I've got Halcyon bar end mirrors on my Classic 350 and they fit very well. I ordered them from classicpartsltd with this adapter:

No reason to remove the handle bar weights from inside of the handle bar.
