Hi all!

I'm brand new here as well to RE and the Himalayan.

I picked up a 2022 Himalayan a couple weeks ago. Its still winter here in North Dakota so I haven't been able to ride it more than around a snow free parking lot a bit lol.

I've come across one issue.

Mine doesn't have the compass, but it has the tripper. The gear position indicator is where the compass used to be instead of in the lcd display in the speedo. In the speedo there is nothing where the gear indicator usta be on these.

Problem- it shows neutral with an 'N' as you'd expect and the gears show up as 'G1', 'G2', etc..., except for 3rd gear. Third displays as 'G-'.

I have noticed thru playing around with it that if you hit a false neutral between gears it will show 'G-' as well.

Anyone else run into this? Any thoughts? Seems as tho 2022 RE shop manuals are unobtainium so no help there...

I've only got about 8 miles on it, lol, and probably one of those on the center stand playing around with it (7 deg F today).

Btw... I have a couple Japenese street bikes- these Royal Enfield bikes are wierd lol. That engine is enormous for a 411cc lol. I wanted something different (and Im cheap), there just aren't any RE's around here. Had to get this one from 200 miles away.

Anyways, any help on this or any advise on Royal Enfield in general or the Himalayan would be greatly appreciated.

2022 with not compass?  Can you share a photo of your gauges?  That is an interesting gauge cluster setup...  The one I am looking at, 2022 as well, has all gauges.

Sorry, can't help with your question... I am just looking at buying one around August... Well, trying to decide between the Himalayan and the KTM 390 Adventure.

Ride safe!

On my 2021, the function of the electronics seemed to require a little "breaking in". The gear indicator didn't indicate correctly at first, but didn't take long to sort out. The compass took a bit longer to function correctly. I recently took my first ride of the year and the compass was confused for a while, but was okay by the end of a 3 mile ride.

While it was quite new, it was handy to do an ECU reset of sorts by disconnecting the negative battery terminal for a while. I like having a gear indicator, but in my opinion, it is less useful than a compass. I find it humorous that RE would dedicate a separate display to that indication.

Try disconnecting the battery, this cured it on mine.

Well, finally got mine a few weeks ago and sure enough, no compass.  And now I understand your comments and question.

Was not aware RE had made those changes.

Gear display is working fine on mine.  I do sometimes see the G- but I just go up again till I see a gear number.  Have not given it much thought.

I am really linking this weird bike :)

you can but you can't take too long, something around half an hour.
i've wired in a battery cutoff so any time my bike sits i reset everything. i pretty much ignore clock and compass.
