Need some guidance in resolving an electric issue. Battery been on trickle charger for years 24/7. Dynojet installed.
Symptoms:
Bike started in garage. Turned off.
Wheeled outside no go. No fuel pump whine.
Dials winding irradically.
Tested battery 12.9 volts. But zero cranking amps
Removed battery terminals noticed slight casing melt at terminal areas
Installed new battery
When attaching terminals sparks fly everywhere.
Help!

If all the electrics are turned off there's a short circuit somewhere. Could be the reg/recifier is failing, which might account for the damage to the old battery.

You could beging by disconnecting components one at a time and see if you can pin down which component is causing the problem. But agree, if you have a motorbike electrician available, it's a good job to farm out.

I have discovered what an idiot I am. 73 years old and getting worse.
The problem was caused by me attaching the rectifier earth wire to the battery positive terminal! Instead of the bracket bolt holding the battery in place..
Now the fuel pump runs, engine turns over but not running. All fuses OK.
I'll try the diagnostic test as outlined in the manual. Knowing my luck probably stuffed the lot.
Take photos next time.

Oh no! Bad luck, chalk it up to experience. Maybe it's bricked the ecu?

At the risk of labouring this topic before the bike goes to an autoelec.
Latest observations
Indicators work, kill switch OK, high beam flesh OK.
Diagnostic via earth cable does not flesh codes just stays on. Diagnostic light goes out when cranking, then comes back on.
Crank engine, fuel pump runs..
Battery Light stays on when cranking

Check for a signal at the ignition pickup. Hopefully it's something easy like you didn't plug it in properly when you replaced the loom. Good luck.
