During the past couple of weeks, I have not been able to access the forum 8 out of 10 tries and have been getting the following page comment:  "Due to high stress on the server the forum is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later." Does anyone know what might be going on?

It has just come back up after a day-long outage. Or was it longer?

Maybe Hitchcocks would appreciate someone else taking over the operation of the forum?

I haven't been able to log in all week, since like Monday..? I'm not sure exactly what the infrastructure looks like for this site, was thinking it was hosted on AWS or something similar. But typically, in an environment like that, there would be some room to stretch, the site wouldn't go down without warning. Perhaps it's hosted on a smaller, less reliable service? In any case sounds like they need more resources allocated or needs to be moved to a better hosting provider. I NEED this site! Was lost without.

I kept wanting to come and post here about it not being available, but then I realized... 😂

Hmmm.... Colour me sceptical. I can see it slowing things down, but totally off the air for a few days? Doesn't seem all that likely to me. If I'm wrong, I apologise in advance.

Hi Guys,

As you may have noticed we have had an issue with the forum being down over the last couple of days along with some performance degradation over the last couple of weeks.

The issue was that the forum was reaching its maximum capacity, and without warning to ourselves went down.

The forum has been going since 2007 and holds a lot of historical posts and valuable information for the Royal Enfield brand, as such it is fairly large in size. Rather than delete some of this historical data, we have, at considerable cost upgraded the forum to give extra storage to help prevent it happening again. This upgrade should also improve the general performance.

Thank you for your continued support and apologies for the disruption over the last few days.

Oops, clearly I was wrong!  It looks like if the storage requirement of the forum exceeds the domain host's limit, it automatically takes the forum down. My apologies to Dan.

Much gratitude to you and the folks at Hitchcock's! 🙏 I agree with some other commenters that, at the very least, perhaps there could be a "donate to help the forum" option available, or something similar, to allow those of us who so greatly value this place to be able to do a little something to help out.

POSSIBLY the Hitchcock's website could develop a PART NUMBER for a donation. That way there wouldn't have to be a lot of mods to the Forum and the accounting would be all in-house. Dan & company could easily track any "sales".

I wonder if we should delete all the "Out and about" threads. Photos taken up a lot of storage, and does anyone really look at them? How many times? They are surely of little value compared with all the other threads.

Any thoughts?

I realise this is probably too late, now that Hitchcocks has paid for more storage already.

Server storage space rental is likely an ongoing expenditure. I'm guessing that there's a way that stored pictures can be resized to 1 meg automagically.
