Title: Congress and governance.
Post by: AussieDave on October 01, 2013, 11:29:56 am
I hope you guys have all still got your jobs! It seems pretty crazy , the news from the states not really what you elect politicians for is it, crashing the budget and throwing must be close to a million employees on the trash heap. Hope you come through this crisis ok.

We just wait it out.  They get around to funding stuff when the people at home get pissed.
Not everyone is furloughed though, there's a backup fund to pay essential personnel for at least a month.  Somebody's got to watch the boilers, fire sprinklers, gates, and Commies.
Ha ha, and you probably thought "Essential Personnel" were big-wigs.  More firefighters, building engineers, gate gaurds, and Air Traffic Controllers fall into that category than big wigs.  They don't stop bad stuff from happening.

I don't know why congress will get payed or retain their taxpayer funded health plan. Take those away and the budget would be funded in 30 seconds

They ALL piss me off!  They've got the best wage, retirement and health care packages our money can buy.  And I guess furloughing them as well might sting a couple of them, a bit, but most of them wouldn't even notice if their government salary disappeared.

I think it's only fair that if the federal government isn't working then we should be free from paying federal income until they can pull their shit together.  Am I right?

Yes you are!  If the majority of the Gov is shut down, they shouldn't need the funds.  Right?

As far as I am concerned, election day cometh with an axe. Any incumbant should be removed just to make a point. Basically we need to say, you don't do your job...YOU'RE FIRED! >:(

Hell, at this point, maybe our military should come home from war, walk right into the white house and KICK ALL THEIR ASSES OUT!  Then start over from scratch.

Not to start a fight but... I hate the unconstitutional stuff "ZERO" has repeatedly done, & I'm glad the Congress has said ENOUGH, & has the cajones to refuse to fund his job killing lunacy. The Senate & Zero himself refuse to get on their own  stinking healthcare plan!

See now this is where kickin out the redcoats comes back to bite you. In Australia  the last time this happened was in 1974 I think the labour govt. held a majority in the upper house and formed a government while the liberal and national parties dominated the senate. Inevitably they choose to block supply( can't remember why) and we had our first constitutional crisis. But, the monarch stepped in in the form of the Governor General and dismissed the elected majority govt and called a re- election. Very contentious , but we're still not a republic. And it may well happen again with the new lot !

I always thought the usage of "nonessential"in the Federal workforce was a poor choice of vocabulary ...Last time I went though this I and my compatriots were deemed "essential" with the realization that the non essentials were off to a paid 2 week vacation...At the time, it felt good to be essential vs the alternative...Now I'm neither... 8)

Lets be honest, most of us are at the point where we can just about get by despite what our politicians do with us rather than because of it.

They pull the levers of an education system that pretty much has a fetish for making us, dutiful, obedient, responsible, etc. I was once fairly sure that these qualities amounted to some kind of universal morality but maybe they just define us as useful idiots. Right now, US politicians aren't doing very much to help me with these gloomy musings.

Chasfield - every time these pr!cks open their mouths, or point their fingers at each other, the damn stock market sh!its itself again.  It's affecting all of us, even those of us who don't live in the US.  So unless you have money in a bag under your mattress...

Check out the book, "The Deliberate Dumbing-Down of America" by Charlotte Iserbyt, who was a previous Education Department executive under Reagan, and you'll find that all of your "gloomy musings" about the American public education system are in fact, true.

If I don't work, I don't get paid. I have to work with people I don't agree with to get the job done.
ALL of them should go. They are like a bunch of kids on a playground arguing about nothing but the lies they tell to make themselves feel big and important.

Lord, I've gotten so worked up I need to take a ride.
It's better than therapy and I don't have to listen to anything but the wind and Her Majesty's Thunder.

Re : the dumbing down of America - don't forget the contribution of one former Aussie dupery Murdoch owner of fox and newscorp - manipulating public opinion all over the world! I you can kick all these people out come next election- they sure ain't respecting the office they hold or governing in the interests of the community. Gremlin how's the forced labour goin? Do we need to send food parcels yet? My mum ( bless her heart) makes excellent Anzac biscuits , please advise.

Dee-liscus. 1 cup of rolled oats,1 cup of plain flour, 1 cup of brown sugar, 1/2 cup coconut,125 grams of butter2 tablespoons of golden syrup,1 tablespoon of water, 1/2 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda. Melt the butter and mix in all the golden syrup and water . Add the bi- carb. Pour over the pre mixed dry stuff and stir it all up.  Make biscuit sized blobs on a greased baking tray ( use butter for this not bearing grease) and bake about 20 min . Should be golden brown not black. This recipe was invented to nourish the blokes in the trenches in ww1 . They keep really well. Enjoy!
