Title: lefty shifter

I would like input on the bullet 4 speed shift linkage kit. After fine tuning the detent , I still find the shifts rather vague :D,  I have to shift slow & deliberate or find one of the neutrals. I have heard the lever action gets heavy

Under the best of circumstances the 4-speed transmission is a slow and deliberate shifter, it is inherent in the design. Here are some things to know about that transmission:
1. It gets better with age. - This is absolutely true. The transmissions are much stiffer when new. After a couple of thousand miles they shifts much better

2. With the left hand shift, the linkage ALWAYS feels loose. It is part of the design.  Some people don't mind, while it drives others crazy When the shift was moved from the right hand side to the left hand side, it lost something in the translation. You also need to keep the chain adjusted as it can interfere with the operation of the shifter.

3. 90% of the shifting g problems are die to maladjusted clutches. The clutch shoujld always be3 adjusted at the transmission and should be "as tight as you dare". Because of the old time design of the clutch, they tend to stick. They will also overheat and "start to creep" of you are in very heavy traffic (like Sturgis traffic) and keep it in gear while yoiu are at a standstill. It is considered good practice to keep this transmission in neutral as much as possible in this situation.

5. The bushing kit that you refferred to is a very cost effective way to take the looseness or "slop" out of the linkage and get a much more positive feeling shift. It is a good alternative to moving the shifter back to the right hand side

6. Moving the shifter back to the right hand side and the brake to the left hand side as they were originally designed is also a very popular modification.
