Having followed Thumper's kicking menu (thanks!), improved starting results from cold even with still-sore leg, but re-starting from warm still less than perfect!
Any clues as to why or for amending the procedure gratefully received!

Everyone has their own method that works, mine is:
cold start: enrichener on, compression release on, 3 kicks w/ throttle closed, Ignition on, throttle 1/3 bring to compression, kick that momma!
warm start: open throttle 1/3, on compression, kick. mine always starts 1st kick. I set my idle ( air bleed ) on the rich side.
Hard starting can be poor state of tune, valves needing adjusted,etc ...If you are lean, try the enrichener , if that works, you probably need to adjust your lo speed jetting. ;D

here's my starting ritual...
cold - ignition off, pull decompresser, kick over 3-4 times, turn ignition on, turn choke on, fires up 1st or second kick, turn choke off immediately.
warm - ignition on, no choke, fires up 1st kick.
I never have to touch my throttle when starting cold or warm.

Fine today any how... I was more patient in employing a "starting ritual".
Sorry if this obvious to all except me, but best clue as to when to KICK seems for me to be when ammeter showing dead centre.

Yep, but needle is in the centre nearly all the time, not just at the best time. Best time is when the needle is back in the centre just after having deflected to the left and come back.
