My front caliper is loose internally. If I grasp it by the gold casting, I can twist it back and forth slightly. The mounting bolts are tight. I can see the screw ends of the bolts that hold both sides together, but dont see any screw heads to check the tightness. The rear is loose also, but not as much. I know there needs to be some clearance between the screw bodies and the castings to compensate for expansion of the castings but want to be sure it is correct. Perhaps the clearances were increased for the recall calipers to prevent binding. When I hold the front brake on and push down on the bars, I can hear clunking of the caliper moving around. Has anyone else experienced this? I have 500 miles on it, I have noticed it after about 200 miles.

I started a thread on this a few months back, but had no replies. It's a normal state of affairs and nothing to worry about.

I've checked at least 8 Interceptors. On all 8 the front and rear calipers had some up and down play in them. As did my Himalayan and my DR400.
So no worries, have fun.  ;)

It's because they are sliding pin callipers. What you are feeling is the play in the sliding pins and bushes. Unlike a much more rigid opposed piston calliper.

Just walked in from the shed, 2021 Interceptor 3,000k on the clock and the caliper does the same movement. No problems, it would seem they all do

My CB500 calipers have the same slop but the front end doesn't clonk.

Mine will click, thugh not "clonk" if I rock the bike back on forth while engaging the front brake. But you have to be listening for it.  If you can feel it on the road or while riding it's most likely not the slight bit of play in the caliper. If that's the case I.d start by looking at the steering head bearings.

What about a mid range "clack".....or is it clunk?????  I give up, if the front wheel is still on the bike lets ride.

I only feel it at a stop while pushing down on the bars. I put my finger on each stem race while pushing down to see if there was movement there, it seems fine. I dont notice anything loose while riding but I wear earplugs along with my helmet to keep the wind noise down. I do want to check the head torque along with the other bolts.
