I wish to check the damping on my Endurance shocks with gas cartridge - this has only the removable top, no bleed valve.  I have a spring compressor but even then I cannot undo the top eye to get the spring off.  How is that locked onto the shaft? Cheers, ChrisD (in Cape Town)
PS looking to buy a 2007 AVL as my 2 CI bullets are now running OK.

Here's a rough 'n ready method: Take off one shock, then standing on the passenger pegs balancing the machine maybe against a wall with a hand, bounce up and down on the pegs. You'll weigh enough to stroke the shock some and see if rebound damping still exists.
This is a great job for a 300 pound friend, and you'll get a better look at the shock operation standing to the side.
A trifecta of Pre-Unit Bullets: a Red Deluxe 500, a Green Standard 500, and a Black ES 350.
