350 J Platform / Re: Trade-in Values on 350 Meteors/Classics

I was offered £1900 give or take a few £s by several dealers when I was considering changing my Meteor. It was mint, as new condition, dealer serviced and two years old. Basically 50% of what I paid for it.
I sold it privately for £2750.
Sad but true I'm afraid.

I'm in the UK remember, if that makes a difference.

Thanks Ivy. Yeah, I'm thinking that might be the way to go - to sell it privately. I've seen some folks here in the US mention similar experiences regarding dealer offers. Appreciate your response.

Thanks to all that responded.  I decided that upgrading the rubber was the right call and placed an order for the BT46’s.

Went with the same specs I posted above as I wanted a slightly wider tire than stock to hopefully reduce the lateral “shiftiness” I feel with longitudinal road imperfections.

Rear 140/70/18 (67H)
Front 110/80/18 (58V)

Will update this thread on my thoughts on the upgrade once they come in and I get them mounted.

Guess some of you wonder why I bang on about saving weight on the bike.

I’ve attached a small spreadsheet/chart which may help explain.

I’ve taken the quoted weight of the bike as 185kg, the rider as 80kg and a ‘standard’ power improvement of 5bhp.

Rows 1 & 4 show the power as standard on the standard weight bike, and with a weight reduction of 20kg. I’ve already got rid of 15kg and expect to achieve nearer to 22kg reduction without too much more effort. These two rows are unrealistic as there’s no allowance for a rider.

So, rows 2 & 5 show the difference with an 80 kg rider. The bhp/metric tonne rises from 113 to 122 just by losing 20kg, no tuning required!

Rows 3 & 6 compare the bike with an additional 5bhp (probably a bit unrealistic at 17% improvement) and the same with reduced weight.

So, lose weight, it’s easier, cheaper and will improve acceleration.

350 J Platform / Trade-in Values on 350 Meteors/Classics

So I've heard some scary stuff about trade-in values being horrible on Classics/Meteors and was wondering what folks here thought, or have experienced. One guy on FB told me I may as well just keep the bike instead of trading because I wouldn't get anything for it anyway. Now, I understand that trade-in is *always* going to be less than retail, what you could get selling to an individual. I was just curious if anyone has any firsthand information or experience they could share.

Thanks in advance!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raccoon

The raccoon (/rəˈkuːn/ or US: /ræˈkuːn/ ⓘ, Procyon lotor), also spelled racoon[3] and sometimes called the common raccoon to distinguish it from the other species, is a mammal native to North America. It is the largest of the procyonid family, having a body length of 40 to 70 cm (16 to 28 in), and a body weight of 5 to 26 kg (11 to 57 lb). Its grayish coat mostly consists of dense underfur, which insulates it against cold weather. The animal's most distinctive features include its extremely dexterous front paws, its facial mask, and its ringed tail, which are common themes in the mythologies of the Indigenous peoples of the Americas surrounding the species. The raccoon is noted for its intelligence, as studies show that it is able to remember the solution to tasks for at least three years. It is usually nocturnal and omnivorous, eating about 40% invertebrates, 33% plants, and 27% vertebrates.

German lawmakers assail far-right party over alleged China, Russia links following spying arrest ; April 25, 2024
https://apnews.com/article/germany-far-right-afd-parliament-china-russia-9d837d9b14edc6edcaec421b0ac7ac60
The German government and opposition lawmakers assailed the far-right Alternative for Germany for its alleged closeness to Russia and China Thursday after an assistant to a legislator for the party was arrested on suspicion of spying for Beijing.
This week’s arrest of an aide to European Parliament lawmaker Maximilian Krah cast an unflattering light on the Alternative for Germany, or AfD, which has long faced criticism for Russia-friendly positions. Krah said he would dismiss the employee, Jian Guo, but remain the AfD’s top candidate for the European Parliament election in June.
One reason why Germany is a focus of Russian and Chinese spying is “the existence of a right-wing extremist party ... that is prepared eagerly to take up every narrative from China and Russia and spread it,” Konstantin Kuhle of the Free Democrats, one of the parties in the coalition government, told a debate in the German parliament in which mainstream lawmakers lined up to criticize the AfD. “So one must say very clearly: AfD is a weak point in German democracy when it comes to our defense of our liberal democracy.”
A lawmaker with the conservative opposition Christian Democrats, Marc Henrichmann, accused the AfD of “betraying and selling out the German people.” He referred to recent allegations involving the party as “Russia today, China tomorrow.”
AfD lawmaker Stefan Keuter accused mainstream politicians of trying to “distract from your own political failure” with help from security services, portraying his party as the victim of a campaign. “Why is this issue popping up now, at the time of an election campaign? That’s very obvious,” he said.
