A good friend/customer of ours has been slowly converting his bike to what he really wanted it to be. What started out life as a G5 Deluxe has really turned into a great looking bike that looks far more "correct" I think.
The latest thing we did for him was to convert to old style tool boxes. THis was actually quite a chore but it came out great. The gold pinstripe on the black boxes with brass emblems looks really nice.
Also you might notice we used a K&N air filter along with a remote crankcase breather plus we converted to a C5 type battery case and cover.
Take a look and let me know what you think. I'll be sure to pass on your comments but he's also on this board. I don't know how often he posts.

I think it looks great.

very nice...I'm familiar with the header pipe getting a bit scorched up by the ring...why the muffler as his header pipe looks great...just curious as mine is the exact opposite..cheers

Nice job !

That's gorgeous. Nice work.

Nice classic look!

Sweet.

Wow, that looks absolutely sick.
As it happens, this is almost exactly the way I would like a G5 to look, and I may be buying one in the next month.
May I ask what it took to retrofit the old-style toolkit / battery cover? I think the Electra - style toolkit looks pretty slick, but at the same time the classic style one looks even truer to the style.
-
It basically took lots of grinding and then welding on new brackets. The battery box wasn't too hard and only required some brackets that were simply bolted onto the original bracket mounts and then an extension on the battery box lock so that the cover would lock in plance as intended.
Nothing was a real brain tease...just time and mess.

Are those tanks being sold again? I thought they wouldn't fit because the new frames are different. ?
-
Looks like a standard G5 de-luxe tank. Mine is fitted slightly offset. I noticed it after I'd had the bike a week or so. Someone here (I think S. Bob) told me it was done to make room for the new fuel pump or some such. You don't really notice it unless you look for it. Part of that ole RE charm I reckon....... :)

Look awesome I think :)

Outstanding !!

Real nice looking ;)

The removal of the sausage boxes and their replacement with the triangular boxes improves the look very much. ThankĀ“s for describing the battery side, but how did your friend replace the air filter? Did he manage to fit it into the new box?
Best regards

Really like the look!
The air filter looks cylindrical, not conical. Do you know the part #?
If I might make one suggestion, and I don't even know if it's possible, chrome the rear fender/seat support. it's big and bulky and looks a little obtrusive in black. I'm not even sure you can remove that part of the frame on a G5 though.
Love the look of the old style triangular tool boxes and the Deluxe tank!

The air filter is cylindrical. I'm noit at work so I'll get he part number for you when I can. It's a near perfect fit.
On a related note...I should have the new Royal Enfield specific part number in the next few weeks for the K&N filter that fits INSIDE the stock airbox. It's going to be a slightly tapered filter to fit over the brackets and yet still inside the top plate.

I was just looking through tapered filters by dimension on their site tonight. Several filters from 80cc 2 stroke dirt bikes would fit in the current box but none would fit under the retrofit airbox. Glad to hear this is on the way. Thanks! And please keep us posted.

Thank you, that sounds very interesting!

You guys did a great job on this bile, love the look. Particularly like the exposed air filter, what did you do with the crankcase breather here?
-
It's just hard to see in pics but it's connected by hose to a K&N crankscase filter.

You mean like this, Scotty...???

Not exactly. I meant the platfrom on the G5 that supports the passenger seat.

Found this on the forums while searching for something else, it's on an Electra but looks like a similar frame and what you are talking about:

Cool! So it is a detachable subframe. Thanks!
